4A – Daily News – Wednesday, April 21, 2010 Commerce business The Red Bluff-Tehama County Chamber of Commerce has been some form of conduit for connect- ing the 11 days of rodeo for many years. From promoting the event with the famous Yellow Thundering Herd annual buttons, to assisting with the Cowboy Coffee gathering. The office is apparently in charge of the Chili Cook-off road barriers and of payment for the Round-Up Mixer port-a-potties. Chamber CEO — we have recently been informed by the State Chamber of the pre- ferred titles for the organizational structure — Dave Gowan learned to respond as the Round-Up parade complaint department while getting the office ready for renovation — exterior and interior. The chamber has been there to tow the line of for- gotten details or opportunities for improvement associated with the Round-Up. This year, however, is different. With the arrival of Dave Gowan, a new chamber CEO, he has been taking note of how things are done, and how they could be more effi- ciently handled in the future. Dave’s fresh perspective is accompanied by our new Chamber Director Bill Hill, special events chairman. Bill has taken on all things rodeo to assist in the upgraded marketing effort of the Red Bluff Round-Up, to create con- tinuity and synchronicity among all things Round-Up. Flanked by many volunteers from local businesses, these two men have ignited a new enthusiasm to engage a revived and organized perspective for the chamber, special Associates recognized at convention United Country Real Estate announced at its national convention in February that United Country – Allegiance Real Estate Associates, owned by Lee McLeod and Tonya Redamonti in Red Bluff, has earned United Country’s Dia- mond Award based on gross commissions for 2009. In addition to being & President’s message events and our collaborative efforts to make the most of one of the most exciting, exhilarating and exhaust- ing times in our town. This effort to take a fresh approach, to take a step back and inventory what works, what doesn’t and how to improve upon it, is one that the chamber has embraced as our opportunity to take the next step as a strategic partner with our communi- ty. What does this mean? It means the board of directors is evalu- ating our role as a community part- ner. In May, the chamber will engage in a strategic planning session at which time we will consider data and analysis such as the Marketing and Tourism Report Update by Jeff Casey, the Chabin and Associates Business Attraction & Retention Program Analysis report and mem- bership survey results to outline a revised approach to our business practices and to set a strategy that more appropriately aligns with our membership needs. As a member- ship organization, we are responsi- ble to those who quite frankly pay their dues to engage in the value- added services the chamber can pro- vide. Having shared this, I want to take this time to thank those members who have stuck with the chamber even when we fall short. I ask exist- ing members to stay with us as your recognized for sales accomplishments, the Red Bluff franchise earned the company’s Listing Proficiency Award for excellence in listing properties. “Hard work, outstand- ing customer service and a positive outlook go a long way – no matter what the real estate mar- ket looks like,” said McLeod. “Combining the cutting-edge technology and innovative marketing that our home office pro- vides with our own exper- tise and dedication has paid off, and we’re look- board continues to take a critical view of all that we have done and all that we can do to better serve you and our community. To those potential members wait- ing in the wings, perhaps needing more proof prior to considering the benefit of our services, I encourage you to speak up when you hear of or see something that you like, and of course, those activities or the lack of attention to those things that, from your perspective, matter most. I look forward to keeping you, the community at large, updated on the activities and contributions of the chamber. With the support of the Daily News, this weekly column will now rotate among several active members of our board to bring you the current focus of our many activities. This column will be rotated and shared among the president — that’s me, CEO Dave Gowen, Special Events Chairman Bill Hill and the Governance Committee Co-Chairmen Bill Moule and Matt Byrne. Thank you for your time and consideration as we pave a new way for the chamber and update our ser- vices to our membership.
