4B – Daily News – Wednesday, April 21, 2010 2010 Ocean Salmon Seasons set by Fishery Management The Pacific Fishery Manage- ment Council (PFMC) has set the 2010 salmon seasons for ocean waters off California. Ocean recreational seasons will be as follows: • The Klamath Management Zone from the Oregon border to Horse Mountain will be open from May 29 through Septem- ber 6. Minimum take size is 24 inches. • The waters from Horse Mountain to Point Arena will The following defen- dants were sentenced in Tehama County Superior Court, according to the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office: —————— Recent State Prison Commitments: • Thomas Derek Byers was sentenced to seven years, four months in state prison for assault with a deadly weapon with special allegation great bodily injury,-16 years old minor; first degree burglary, person present. Byers went to victim’s house in an attempt to steal marijuana that was growing in the backyard. When the victim heard something outside the residence the victim went outside to investigate. The victim then spotted Byers standing outside her home and ordered him to leave. Byers then shot at victim twice with a pellet gun which struck the victim in the neck. • Robert Raymond Sanders was sentenced to three years in state prison remain open through Septem- ber 6. Minimum take size will increase from 20 inches to 24 inches beginning May 1. • The waters from Point Arena to the United States/Mexico border will remain open through Septem- ber 6. From May 1 through September 6, fishing will be allowed only from Thursday through Monday. A deputy was patrolling in the county when he recognized the Sanders driving a vehicle and was aware he had a suspended license. The deputy attempted to con- duct a traffic stop but Sanders sped away and eventually came to a stop in the driveway of his residence. Sanders again attempted to accelerate in reverse but came to a stop and walked out of his vehicle towards his resi- dence. Sanders was ordered to the ground and continued resisting until deputies were able to gain control and get him into custody. The deputy’s hand was lacer- ated as a result of Sanders’ fighting. • Jeremiah Paul Setzer was sentenced to two years, eight months in state prison for posses- sion for sale of a con- trolled substance; receiv- ing stolen property. May 1. All zones have a limit of two Chinook salmon. No take of coho salmon is allowed. The PFMC also set limited commercial seasons in some zones. The California Fish and Game Commission (FGC) will meet on April 21 to review and Agents from the drug task force use a confiden- tial informant to pur- chase .5 grams of methamphetamine from Setzer. Setzer stole mail from the victim’s mail- box and wrote a check for $3,500 and was later caught on the bank secu- rity camera depositing the check. An investigation into the incident revealed the check stolen from the first victim was being deposited into the account of the second victim and then several unauthorized with- drawals were being made from the account in which the check was deposited. • Lindsey Michelle Alexander was sentenced to two years, four months in state prison for petty theft with a prior. Alexander was observed stealing items from a local business and attempting to exit the store without paying for conform ocean seasons and size limits in state waters to mirror the new federal rules. The FGC will discuss and vote on a proposal that mirrors the dates adopted by the PFMC for ocean salmon seasons but may include additional gear and size restrictions. Recent County Jail Commitments: • Noe Mendoza Maga- na was sentenced to 180 days in Tehama County Jail for cultivating mari- juana, possession of mar- ijuana for sale. Agents served a search warrant at Magana’s home and located 159 marijuana plants, 23.9 grams of marijuana, glass pipes and digital scales. • Pedro Camacho was sentenced to 180 days in Tehama County Jail for possession of a con- trolled substance. Camacho was origi- nally granted formal pro- bation. Camacho violated his probation when he failed to keep probation informed of his current contact information and failed to pay his fined as ordered. • James Robert Onesto was sentenced to 90 days in Tehama County Jail cultivating marijuana. Angle violated his proba- tion when he was termi- nated from the proposi- tion 36 treatment pro- gram for violating the admissions agreement and absence policy. • Deborah Torango Weston was sentenced to 60 days in Tehama Coun- ty Jail for grand theft. Weston was originally granted formal probation. Weston violated her pro- bation when she failed to report to her probation officer as ordered. • Jacob Aaron Lenihan was sentenced to 20 days in Tehama County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon. Lenihan was original- ly granted formal proba- tion. Lenihan violated his probation when he was caught driving his vehi- cle while under the influ- ence of alcohol. Preliminary Hearings (PX) and Trials: • Paul James Wright will appear in court at 9 a.m. on May 20 and Steven Donald Kuss will appear at 1:15 p.m. on May 24 . They are facing the charges of assault with a deadly weapon with means to produce great bodily injury with special allegation, two counts. Wrigth and Kuss encountered the two vic- tims while walking alongside opposite sides of the street on New Years Eve. An argument ensued and the victims approach Wright and Kuss. Both victims end up getting beat with a chain and stabbed several times in the abdominal area and hands.
