Amongst the army of help was Susan West Cannon '77. "I absolutely loved working with Vicki Lafitte Gay '72 on the new Kappa lodge. It was an honor to assist her and the committee to bring their vision to life," she said. "I was part of the first pledge class in the old lodge, so to help create a new home for future Kappas was exciting." Susan recalls many memories during her time as an undergraduate member; however, spending time at the lodge with sisters preparing for recruitment and Bid Day stand out as some of her favorites. "I joined Kappa to be a part of something," she said. "Coming from a small high school where I was involved in everything to such a large school like Texas Tech, Kappa gave me a place to call home." As current collegiate sisters officially begin their time in the new Delta Psi lodge, Susan encourages them to develop friendships and encourages them to really get to know one other. Upon graduation, Susan remained involved with Delta Psi as a new member advisor and member of the house board before taking time off to raise her children. Looking back on how Kappa Kappa Gamma prepared her for life after college, Delta Psi taught Susan how to be a part of something bigger than herself, introduced her to women all over Texas, and Pam Fikes McPherson '75 introduced her to her future husband, Dell. Professionally, Susan began her career with an internship at a Lubbock furniture store in their design department and stayed with the store upon graduation. Once she got married, she took a creative career path of her own by owning her business and doing everything from designing sorority products and baby calendars to writing and publishing a cookbook. Now that her children are grown, she and her husband have owned a Budget Blinds franchise for the past 12 years where Susan is able to utilize her love of fabrics and her degree in interior design. Susan and Dell have been married since 1982 and their oldest, Logan, is a software engineer in Dallas, and Kaitlyn is a customer service representative for Warby Parker in Nashville. The couple loves to travel and eat good food. Their favorite places so far have been Charleston, South Carolina, Boston, Massachusettes, Carmel, California, Paris, Edinburgh, Scotland, Maderia, and London. Susan lives in Tahoka, Texas, and can be reached at susanwcannon@gmail.com. Vicki Lafitte Gay '72 and Susan West Cannon '77 at the Grand Opening. The Iris painting hung in the original lodge and was given by a Kappa alumna.
