DTD 2 THE CORDELT U pon attending recruitment with an invitation from Eric Stucker '13, Alexander Nestle '13 knew Delta Tau Delta was the place he wanted to spend his college years. During 2012, Alex became the secretary for the Beta Omicron Chapter of Cornell University. He was immediately drawn to be involved and felt he was in the right group to succeed. Alex was studying operations research and information engineering, and graduated in 2013. "I would not have been able to finish school without the support of my Beta brothers." His brothers were always willing to lend him a hand with his studies during a stressful time at Cornell. "Many brothers left a lasting impression on me as an undergraduate, I met Michael Bonacum '10 my first night at the Shelter and he has been a big part of my Delta Tau Delta experience for the last decade." Many others impacted Alex in a positive way. Even with Alex's career as a U.S. Navy helicopter pilot and a division officer taking him all over the world, he still feels a close connection with his Beta Omicron brothers. "I would encourage undergraduates to always look for a Delt brother, regardless of where you find yourself in the world. Become aware of and involved in your brothers' interests. Be receptive to all in the house. One of my life friends could have been missed if I had disregarded him due to my first impression." He urges undergraduates to expand their presence and be mindful of the grand history at Cornell and nationally at Delta Tau Delta. "Beta Omicron helped make me who I am and I am proud of the direction the chapter is headed. Special thanks to the current members of the House Corporation. Their dedication is obvious through the many successful alumni that have passed through the Beta Omicron chapter house. As an alumnus, Alex knows the importance of engagement after graduation and has tried to mirror the examples set by Graham Seward '07, Jason Saltsburg '94, and Jeffery Catalano '09. Alex is currently serving our country and would love to be more of a regular presence upon his return to the U.S. "I can say without a doubt, I am who am in the Navy today because of my loyal brothers. I have an advantage in confidence and teamwork that can only be attributed to my Beta brothers. They made me be the best I can be and recognized my true talents." He was able to learn to work with much diversity that has served him well as a Navy pilot on tour. Alex enjoys hockey, softball, flag football, soccer, skiing, and "pretty much any sport." He is stationed in Japan and enjoys exploring the country and welcomes all the experiences in his surroundings. Contact Alex at alexander.nestle1@gmail.com. Alexander Nestle '13 Practices His Beta Omicron Values in Japan O n June 10, 30 alumni and guests, as well as a significant number of undergraduate brothers, gathered at the Shelter on a beautiful summer day to enjoy themselves as proud Delts. The Delts hailed from a number of class years, including the classes of 1982, 1987, 2007, and 2012, who were celebrating their 5th, 10th, 30th, and 35th reunions, respectively. In addition, a number of members from other pledge years were present. The brothers did a great job of making alumni from all years feel welcome. Alumni Relations Chairman Justin Kim '19 coordinated a cookout in the Shelter's backyard. Alumni and undergraduates enjoyed cold drinks and a few games, as well as swapped stories about the different eras of the house. Other activities on campus included a social on the arts quad, a trip to Ithaca Brewery, and college-specific presentations and other events throughout campus. Reunion 2018 is scheduled for June 7-10, with a cookout at the Shelter on June 9. Look for more information as the date draws closer.
