p. 3 SIGMA PHI EPSILON Oregon Beta Chapter House Experiences Property Improvements SigEp Welcomes Home 21 New Members in Fall Recruitment W ith the year drawing to a close, I would like to recap the progress that Oregon Beta has made in the months since our last newsletter. There have been a number of changes for Greek life on campus, most notably the hire of a new director of fraternity and sorority life. We have continued our work with SigEp National Housing to improve our property and over the summer we upgraded the paint, lighting, and furniture in our double rooms, installed sprinklers in the front and back lawns, and hired landscapers to care for our yard. Thirty-one brothers are living in the house this term and the demand to live in is high. While the university's new policy requiring freshmen to live on campus will present some challenges for spring move- ins, we are confident that our relationship with SigEp National Housing will make our house an attractive place to live. After meeting last year's recruitment goals and finishing spring term as the second largest fraternity on campus with 104 members, we signed 21 new members during fall recruitment. This year's Balanced Man Scholarship banquet was our largest to date with 12 members of our alumni board and our regional director also in attendance. The opportunity to meet with alumni volunteers made a clear impression on the scholarship finalists, and we were able to sign several applicants as a result. Next year, we would like to host more events that connect alumni and undergraduates as these events are very valuable for older members seeking mentorship, as well as younger members who are learning what the Fraternity means to them. In March, our newly elected executive board will travel to Orange County, Calif., for Carlson Leadership Academy, where we will meet with officers, volunteers, and Fraternity leaders from across the region. Although there have been many changes in the past year, our Chapter has been able to adapt. The newly released Balanced Man application will allow challenge coordinators to easily organize membership development activities and keep members accountable for their progress though the Balanced Man Program. We are growing more confident with the resources we have in place, and we look forward to more achievements in 2018.
