Coming Home: The Campaign for 214 North Plum
N
o worries, Vermillion. There was no fire at 214 N. Plum Street,
the Alpha Xi Deltas were simply giving back to the community
by letting the Vermillion Fire Department do a practice drill before dem-
olition began in August. The fire department doesn't often get to practice
on a three-story building to test their skills, so our 8,800-square-foot house
was the perfect training place for our brave volunteer fire crew to get some
practice in. The men of Pi Kappa Alpha were gifted with our dining room
tables to help make their dining experiences a little brighter.
Doors, windows, sinks, etc., were given to Habitat for Humanity Restore
of Greater Sioux Falls. If you would like a piece of the house, come shop
the Restore. In addition to the items that went to Habitat Restore, we also
donated a ton of great items to the Vermillion Civic Council, gave some
dressers and window blinds, etc., to families in need here in Vermillion,
and the USD Art Department reclaimed and is reusing some of the old ra-
diator heater units, old cabinetry, etc. Giving back through this project has
been an unexpected positive result of building new again.
