Mission ac- complished—thanks in part to YOU, my incredible sisters. Each of you challenged me to raise my voice as a leader, helping me to emerge from my once super-shy shell. Now, I would like to challenge you to reflect on your college journey and how you grew through the Epsilon sisterhood, housed at 214 N. Plum Street. I've put my heart and soul into Coming Home: The Campaign for 214 N. Plum Street. From the very inception of the idea to construct a new chapter home, I knew this was something that had to be followed through with to the end. We started the venture by establishing com- munication with our National Housing Corporation Board, research (and lots of it), meeting with alumnae, deciding between potential ar- chitects, hiring a campaign consultant, forming a campaign committee (and bringing the incredible Mary Brandon Miller '67 into the fold), expanding and helping to strengthen Epsilon's House Corporation Board, negotiating with the city about parking, raising over $1M, and finally, breaking ground on the new house. YOU, my sister, are the inspiration for all of the hard work behind the scenes. During my time in the house, I was invited to serve as philanthropy chair. First, I had the opportunity to plan our spaghetti dinner, then to organize a walk team for March of Dimes. Through these events, I realized my path in life was to work in the nonprofit sector. I've now spent 16 years in fundraising and nonprofit administration because Alpha Xi Delta helped me realize my potential. So, when people ask me where I get the energy for organizing the de- tails of this campaign or why I continue to invest so much time into it, my answer is YOU. I have worked behind the scenes giving my time, talent, and treasure to this project because of YOU. It doesn't matter whether we were in the same era or pledge class, YOU shared the blessings of this sisterhood with me. YOU helped me develop project and event management skills. YOU inspired me to fall in love with helping others through philanthropy, fundraising, and giving. The core pillars of Alpha Xi Delta: knowledge, leadership, service and sisterhood, are there because of sisters like YOU who laid a solid foundation for us all to stand on. Every sister who has ever walked through the doors at 214 N. Plum, past and present, has helped to shape the Epsilon Chapter experience and traditions for the women who are members today. Through the Coming Home campaign, you again have the opportunity to help shape the future for our Alpha Xi Delta sisters. So, when YOU send in your pledge, I'd love to hear your story on why you gave. Please enclose a note with your pledge and share how Alpha Xi Delta has inspired you to realize your potential. Thank you for your inspi- ration! Together, we are building a new place for our sisters to call home. Yours in Alpha Xi, Mary Duncan '98, President Alpha Xi Delta Epsilon Chapter Corporation Board MARY DUNCAN '98: Why I Gave to Coming Home: The Campaign for 214 North Plum
