Upon returning home in October 1945, he at-
tended RPI on the GI Bill, studying chemical
engineering. He earned bachelor's, master's, and
doctoral degrees in chemical engineering from
the institute. Donald worked at Union Carbide
for four years before joining the UB faculty in
1961 as the first full-time professor in the De-
partment of Chemical and Biological Engineer-
ing. He received the Professional Achievement
Award from the American Institute of Chemi-
cal Engineers in 1968. Donald was named dean
of Millard Fillmore College in 1978, developing
curriculum and furthering the program's efforts
to educate non-traditional students. He returned
to the Department of Chemical and Biologi-
cal Engineering as a professor before retiring in
1989. Donald enjoyed golfing, art, music, and
traveling with his wife, children, and grandchil-
dren. An avid gardener and landscaper, he spent
his retirement working in his yard and tinkering
in his workshop.
E. Bosworth Grier Jr. '53 (A769) entered Chap-
ter Eternal on May 24 at Connecticut Hospice in
Branford. Bos played ice hockey at RPI and loved
the game throughout his life. During the Korean
War, Bos served as first lieutenant in the U.S.
Army Adjutant General's Corps. Early in his pro-
fessional career, he co-founded American Cam
Company in Hartford, Conn. He moved to Rus-
sellville, Ky., and served as president of the Auburn
Hosiery Mill. Later in life, he fulfilled his dream of
becoming a stockbroker, working at White Weld
& Co. and Merrill Lynch. Bos was a devoted hus-
band, father, grandfather, and uncle, who deeply
cherished his family and friends. He especially en-
joyed spending time with his grandchildren. His
passion for travel, literature, art, and history were
contagious, making him a knowledgeable and hu-
morous conversationalist and host.
