P I B E T A P H I | U N I V E R S I T Y O F G E O R G I A | F A L L 2 0 1 7 Memories on Milledge Linking Georgia Alpha Pi Phis S ince 1939, Pi Beta Phi Georgia Alpha has been a proud and respected member of the University of Georgia community. Since our founding, thousands of young women have bonded as sisters and learned to live lives of excellence. Georgia Alpha continues to grow both in numbers and in stature. Most of us would agree that Pi Phi has had a significant impact on our lives, both during and after our time at UGA. RENEWING PI PHI BONDS Because we build such strong friendships as sisters, we all leave Pi Phi with high hopes of staying in touch and keeping our sisterhood bonds intact. Unfortunately, we quickly find that many new interests – careers, families and civic activities – can create valid diversions. The day- to-day activities of life take over and, before long, we fall out of touch and begin to wonder what is happening at 886 South Milledge Avenue. Without a solid alumnae relations program in place, our members lack the means for staying connected to the Pi Phi and UGA. ALUMNAE RELATIONS PROGRAM LAUNCH The older we all get, the more precious the memories and friends from Pi Phi become and we start to remember the "good old days." Oh, to be in college again and living at 886 S. Milledge where "dinner is served," not cooked by ourselves. With a desire to bring you together with long-lost friends, the Chapter House Corporation, along with chapter members, are launching a new alumnae relations program designed to help you connect with friends to learn what is happening on campus. Twice a year you'll receive a newsletter with alumnae and chapter news. From time to time, you'll receive email updates, spotlights on alumnae from various decades, information on upcoming events and chapter activities. Our goal is to keep all alumnae updated on current chapter projects and future plans, and to remind you that we are all Pi Phis for life. UPDATE YOUR RECORDS Once a year, you'll receive a request to update your biographical information we have on record. You should have received the first update in September. If you haven't returned the form, please do so. If you know of a Pi Phi who didn't get the mailing, please let us know her current contact information and we'll add her to our mailing list. GET INVOLVED WITH ACTIVE MEMBERS Think back on your years at UGA and remember the Pi Beta Phi alumnae who were involved with the chapter. Betty Tucker, Florida Beta '35, Sis Mullins, South Carolina Alpha '62, Marilyn Ford, Nebraska Beta '43, Judi Fleming '70, Karen Hawes '74 – just to name a few. The chapter always needs the support of alumnae. Through our communications, you will learn more about what's happening with Pi Beta Phi and hear about what your younger sisters are accomplishing in the community. We hope these stories will encourage you to lend your support to Georgia Alpha and help our young women remain leaders on campus. PI BETA PHI SHINE THROUGH CAMPAIGN As you may know, the Pi Beta Phi Foundation announced the capital campaign, SHINE THROUGH, at Pi Phi's 150th Celebration at the St. Louis convention. This campaign focuses on five areas of growth for Pi Beta Phi – including chapter housing. To learn more about the campaign's aspirations and how your unending loyalty can create endless impact, visit www.pibetaphifoundation.org. Chapter House Corporation donated $10,000 to begin the Georgia Alpha Chapter House Improvement Program Fund (CHIP). You can now support the Pi Beta Phi Foundation and the Georgia Alpha Chapter by designating your donations to go to the Georgia Alpha CHIP Fund. Just go to www.pibetaphifoundation.org/ GAAlphaCHIP. LINK UP Along with our goal of linking Pi Phis with each other, the Georgia Alpha Chapter House Corporation continues to evaluate the needs of the chapter.
