ELECTION Guide 2012 pretty tired of all the election materials that have been sent through the mail, hung on our door knobs or shouted at us via the media. It's show time. Who will you vote for? As in year's past, Up & Coming Weekly has done its best to stay out of the fracas of the elections, instead, we have sought to let the candidates tell our readers in their own words why they should be elected. What you are looking at now is the 2012 Election Guide. Here is how it works. Approximately a month ago, we sent out letters to everyone on the ballot — national, state and local candidates — asking them a couple of questions that should help you, our readers get an idea of where they are coming from. As you will note, very few candidates took the time to give you the courtesy of speaking directly to you. But in the following pages, you will fi nd the answers of those candidates, mostly local, who know the importance of an informed electorate. We hope that you take what you Elections. The voter must tell the precinct official that he/she desires to have assistance, stating the reason assistance is needed. In addition, the voter must tell the precinct official who he/she wishes to receive assistance from. The precinct official may assist the voter if the voter requests. The person rendering assistance to the voter cannot persuade the voter to cast his/her ballot in any particular way nor keep any record of how the voter marked his/her ballot. Who May Give Assistance Any registered voter qualified to vote in the election is entitled to assistance from the voter's spouse, brother, sister, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son- in-law, stepparent, or stepchild, as chosen by the voter with entering and exiting the voting booth and in preparing ballots. A disabled voter may receive assistance from a person of the voter's choice, other than the voter's employer or agent of that employer or an officer or agent of the voter's union or by telephone. Curbside Voting If you are unable to enter the voting place because of age or physical disability, you will be allowed to vote either in your vehicle or near the voting place. Have someone enter the voting place and inform the election officials of your desire to vote in this manner.
