Congressional Conversa- tions Offers Chance to Chat With Representatives

The residents of Fayetteville/Cumberland County don’t have a lot of time to sit down and talk with their representatives to Congress. But on Monday, April 19 from 4:30-6 p.m., they’ll get the chance to make their voices heard at the 3rd Annual Congressional Conversations. The event, which is put together by a grassroots group of community citi- zens led by attorney Gardner Alman Jr., will feature Congressman Bob Ether- idge, Congressman Mike McIntyre and Congressman Larry Kissell. Sonya Teasley, one of the organizers of the event, noted that the event has moved to Seabrook Auditorium, on the campus of Fayetteville State University, to accommodate more citizens. “Last year we had around 300 people in attendance, but we are expecting
many more this year,” said Teasley. “Each Congressman will have about 10 minutes to give a legislative update
from Washington, and after that there will be a question and answer period,” she continued.
As attendees enter the building they will be given the opportunity to submit questions to the moderator for the Q&A. “No topics are off limits,” she said. “We will take as many questions as time allows, and hopefully local residents will get the answers they want from their elected representatives.” Teasley said that while the Congressmen have offices in the area, there is not a lot of unified access to all three of the county’s representatives. “We hope to make the Congressman available to the public so they can have time with them to discuss the issues that are important to them,” she concluded.
