It is with the deepest gratitude and respect that your Board announces the retirement from office of our Vice President, Dick Prebil X973. When asked in 2012 to offer his guidance and organizational skills to the then-new chapter house project, Dick made room in an already full life to help build our future. ose most closely involved can attest that without the leadership of Dick "Tator," both on the building project and on the other critical issues we faced in 2013, Chi Zeta might never have had a Dedication to celebrate. Dick perfectly captured the essence of his and others' contributions at that ceremony in what will become the lasting motto for these herculean efforts: "Sometimes dreams come true!" ank you Brother Prebil for helping, so effectively, to make it so. Steve Parsons summed it up beautifully: "Your leadership, contribution, guidance, and vision to the Chi Zeta chapter has been outstanding, profound, and immeasurable. You serve as a role model for the men of our chapter on what it means to daily live out the Seven Core Values of Lambda Chi Alpha." Pete Kale recently received the following note from the son of one of our oldest alumni, Richard Oeler '27 X175, who passed away in 1996. It's a touching recount of his dad's connections with Illinois and Chi Zeta and we pass it along to you all. "Pete, thanks for your note. Dad was a proud member of Lambda Chi and tried to steer me in that direction—but pledging a fraternity really looks at the local chapter and I ended up a Beta at MIT. Dad graduated from Illinois in 1930 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He won three varsity letters and was captain of the gymnastics team. Of note, he was the U of Illinois 1930 recipient of the Big Ten Medal of Honor for excellence in athletics and scholarship. He was the first recipient at Illinois from a sport other than football, basketball, baseball or track. He passed away in February 1996. I live in Naples Fla., and more than half of our friends are from Chicago or central Illinois.anks again for the follow- up." –Dick Oeler, son Robert Lacey '90 X1396 has been a Chicago firefighter/EMT for the last 18 years and a certified athletic trainer for Athletico Phyiscal erapy Clinic for the last four years. He's married with two boys (11 and 14). Email: roblacey6@yahoo.com Richard (Dick) Salogga '64 X809 is happily retired in Santa Barbara, Calif. He plays tennis four to five times a week and enjoys traveling far and wide with his wife, Dot. Email: rsalogga@gmail.com Richard Schaller '71 X951 writes, "I ended up on the USS Benjamin Franklin aer nuclear power school. Aer five years, I le active duty and went into the civilian nuclear utility industry, first at Clinton in Illinois, and then Palo Verde near Phoenix. Jill and I retired here in the west suburbs of Phoenix. Both Jill and I had Navy Reserve careers and retired as commanders from the Naval Reserve intelligence program. I took up flying and building airplanes as a hobby in the '80s. I got my private license in 1985 followed by my commercial, CFII, multi-engine, seaplane and ATP over the years. I picked up a citation and 737 type ratings in about 2000 in a bid to break into the airlines. Fortunately, no takers, as I would have been on the street in 2001. I've owned seven airplanes over the years and the most fun was a Yakovlev 52 Russian military trainer. It was a great aerobatic plane. Now I'm down to the RV12, which I finished in 2012, and the Cherokee 180 that we bought in 1985." ALUMNI UPDATE W e were honored shortly aer Dedication to be selected as the site for this year's Homecoming Parade kick-off reception.
