FALL 2017 SigEp CA Psi Journal SIGMA PHI EPSILON t CA PSI CHAPTER t PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY T his is more than a newsletter—the first in our chapter's combined 72-year history. It's a symbol of what we hope and expect is to come for our beloved SigEp chapter. Over the past eight months or so, our newly formed Alumni and Volunteer Corporation and Chapter E-board have been busy on a variety of initiatives in conjunction with SigEp Headquar- ters and Pepperdine's administration. Our path and progress are made possible as a result of what our fraternity has already accomplished, as well as the excitement for its untapped potential 20 years post-chartering. Key initiatives are aligned to a new Five-Year Plan and Chapter Scorecard, which we have de- veloped to create a vision and success measures for our fraternity moving forward. e goal of this biannual newsletter is to better enrich our alumni, volunteer and active member network like never before, as well as to share progress on our Plan and Scorecard ongoing. With your sup- port, our storied chapter will make history again. You will read about several programs in this newsletter that are currently underway. Fraternally, Austin Hurwitz '97 AVC President Enriching CA Psi's Past, Present and Future AVC and E-board Introduce Five-Year Plan and Scorecard From Pepperdine to NBC Stefan Holt '09 Shares His Story of Success N ot really knowing what was in store for him at the time, Stefan Holt '09 attended a recruitment mixer for SigEp his freshman year at Pepperdine. He attended mainly for his friends, and like most fresh- men, he didn't want to be the one stuck at the dorm alone. "I didn't realize it, but on Bid Night, I was entering an incredible brotherhood, and would make some of the most meaningful relationships in my life," Stefan shared. e success Stefan has earned now is partly attributed to the values formed through SigEp's Balanced Man Program. He quickly learned how to balance all aspects of life and le college feeling prepared to cope with the working world, along with its ups and downs. Stefan now anchors the 4 o'clock news at WNBC-TV, the NBC owned station in New York. While most have heard and seen his father on TV, Lester Holt, Stefan was never pushed into be- coming a broadcaster. It was a brother at SigEp, Kirk Henderson '06, who helped give him his start in journalism. Stefan became involved with Pales- tra, a new online video site featuring Pepperdine sports. His big break came when a wildfire broke out on October 21, 2007, and Stefan caught footage of the campus evacuation and firefighting helicopters attempting to put out the raging fire. Soon aer, producers from New York began calling for more content from this up-and-coming broadcast journalist. Although he has not had a chance to go back, Stefan recalls trips to the beach and adventures all over Southern California. He and his brothers bonded over basketball games, broom ball, and serving meals at the Mid- night Mission in downtown Los Angeles. "e principals of virtue, dili- gence, and brotherly love still guide me today," he shared. Whether he is in front of the camera relaying breaking news to America, or at home with his family, Stefan remains a man of virtue. Stefan and his wife, Morgan, are enjoying life as new parents. eir son, Henry, was born in September. Although a new journey for them is ahead, Stefan is making a name for himself at WNBC. You can connect with Stefan at stefan.holt@nbcuni.com. Stefan Holt '09, second from le, prepares for WNBC-TV broadcast in New York. Share who you think we should feature next at sigepavc.org/contact.
