Page 3 Sigma Phi Epsilon C alifornia Delta is in a very good place on the San Diego State University campus. We are coming off of a monumental spring semester under the guidance of the new executive board. We are extremely excited to announce that we were the recipients of the 2017 Dean's Trophy during Homecoming week. Cal Delta was also the recipient of many awards in the spring semester. We were recognized by SDSU and awarded the Dedication to Academic Achievement award. We were also the most- awarded IFC chapter during the IFC Award Banquet. We received the IFC Chapter of the Year and IFC's Highest GPA awards. Last, but not least, we were also awarded the Alumni Advisor of the Year for Ron Smith's hard work, which we are very excited about. Ron '69 has been an incredible resource for the chapter and essential in our success. We finally reached our longstanding goal of receiving a 3.25 overall GPA and surpassing the entire IFC community for the fourth semester in a row. This time, the chapter was .15 higher than the next-best GPA. A 3.25 also was a goal that the chapter had been trying to achieve for a long time. The recruitment process this was year was very arduous, but we emerged extremely successful with 46 of the 48 potential new members accepting their bids. We are now the largest organization in the IFC community and are very proud of it. We are around 165 members strong. The new members are now enrolled in our extremely successful academic success class and will be strictly following the Balanced Man program. We have many leaders in the house. Quinn Toohey '19 and Imahn Moshksar '19 are members of the IFC executive board and Quinn is also the A.S. College of Business representative. We have two brothers on the Greek Life Activities Executive Board and are expecting a very competitive SigEp executive election process this year, with elections on October 15 and transitions in early November. Our philanthropy, Sun Cup, will be in the spring and the money will go to benefit research for LHON, a disease that our brother, Jeremy Poincenot '13, was diagnosed with when he lived in the chapter house. The philanthropy event is always a huge success and we are expecting a great turnout from the entire Greek community. It was this executive board's biggest goal to put us in contention for a Buchanan Cup and I believe that we have done just that. The chapter house has become very decorated with many new awards and great new members. The future of the chapter looks extremely bright and we look to continue our dominance at San Diego State University and get a Buchanan Cup at the next Conclave. HFF, Griffin Rechter '19 Chapter President griffinrechter@gmail.com California Delta Dominates on Campus Brothers Earn University Awards, Keep Eyes Set on the Buchanan Cup T he CA Delta Alumni and Volunteer Corporation is proud to award the second annual Tim MacNeil Scholarship to Matthew Sharp '19. The program began with the vision and generosity of Dennis Tilton '66 and was supported by many other brothers with their gifts as well. The Tim MacNeil scholarship honors the memory of brother Tim MacNeil '66, who died tragically in 2007. Tim was a charismatic leader in the chapter and on campus. He went on to enjoy a successful law career in San Diego, where he was helpful to many brothers. Recipients of the annual $1,000 scholarship are active undergraduate members of the fraternity who have high academic achievement and demonstrated leadership in the fraternity, campus organizations, or other college activities. The AVC screening committee and interview panel had no trouble select- ing Matthew. Matthew came to CA Delta with an already stellar resume. Graduating sixth in his high school class, he competed in varsity baseball and soccer, while serving as student body president. Coming from parents who were Greek, he chose CA Delta because he was "looking for smart athletes and there really wasn't any other choice." As a member of CA Delta, he maintains a 3.91 GPA and has provided service and leadership in key areas, including fundraising, event planning, and new member training. His next chapter goal is to earn the status of Brother Mentor, the highest undergraduate level of personal development. Matthew is also a leading member of the Pre-Veterinarian Medical Club. His ambition is to attend veterinarian school and there isn't much doubt that this outstanding SigEp will achieve his goals. TIM MACNEIL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO DESERVING UNDERGRADUATE Brothers tabeling this fall. Kenneth Bagdasar '18, LJ Besong '18, Will Andrews '18, Giuseppe Castanos '18, and Noah Chen '18 studied abroad in the spring.
