Jay found Gamma eta's emphasis on leadership and service refreshing. "We seemed to have leaders in all aspects of student life and were respected as a well-rounded fraternity who continued a tradition of excellence in the Greek system." Living among brothers who were active with the Interfraternity Council, student government, and intercollegiate athletics promoted an achieving environment in the chapter house. Jay fondly recalls daily basketball games on the patio, football on the front lawn, and annual events such as the famous Super Bowl Party. While attending the chapter house dedication, Jay had the opportunity to reconnect with current members and alumni. "We continually recruit high-quality men with similar interests and high expectations. e chapter house looks great and should be a great place for continued excellence." In fact, such an environment propelled Jay toward his career path. Aer completing his degree at MSU and pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Jay went on to serve as an aviator for over 25 years in the Air Force. He achieved multiple senior leadership positions, including instructor pilot and vice commander for the entire Columbus base. Ultimately, he rose to the rank of colonel serving both in the United States and a year-long deployment in Afghanistan. "Being affiliated with Pike and brothers who had gone on to successful careers gave me confidence that I also could be successful." Jay encourages undergraduate members to not let obstacles or lack of focus halt the pursuit of their goals. "Whether student government or recreational organizations, find a place where you can plug in and become a leader on campus." e Pike standard for leadership and lessons learned do not diminish in value aer graduation. "e outstanding times I had as a Pike allowed me to easily form friendships in the Air Force and apply leadership lessons learned while at MSU. ese lessons have contributed to a successful career as a professional aviator and senior leader in the Air Force." Jay lives with his wife, Marla, and sons, Noel and Luke, in Columbus, Mississippi. He can be reached at jayfisherbulldog@gmail.com.
