THE TOMAHAWK Theta Chi at ISU 3 O n August 1, Sarah Rudy began her new position as Alpha Mu's graduate student advisor� As the school year progresses, Sarah will assist brothers with time management, resumes, cover letters, and any support and encouragement they may need throughout the semester� "As much as I hope to be an outlet for them, I also want to try to connect them to the resources on campus too," she said� "In this position, I want to be available to the students within the chapter as a resource, listening ear, and supporter� Additionally, I hope to be just as willing to learn from them as they are from me�" Sarah spent her own undergraduate years at the University of Northern Iowa and became interested in continuing her education at Iowa State when she heard of the variety of experiences she could obtain through the university� Through the student affairs program, she has been able to apply what she's learned in the classroom to real life and appreciates how ISU has a great sense of school pride, similar to UNI� During her undergraduate years, Sarah was involved in a variety of organizations, including the orientation staff, peer mentorship programs, alumni ambassadors, campus ministry, and was a student employee for the registrar's office� "The graduate student advisor position interested me due to the unique interactions I could have with the students," she said� "I hope to be challenged and encouraged differently than my assistantship would provide�" Sarah was not a member of Greek life, but has found she enjoys the sense of community Alpha Mu brings to its members and herself� Also, she's enjoyed seeing the different ways members can become involved within the Greek system and at Iowa State as a whole� "The active chapter is a fun, energized, and well-rounded group that push each other to become better every day� I am excited to see how they continue to grow to be better leaders and men overall," she said� "I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve as the graduate student advisor� The members of this chapter have truly helped make Iowa State feel like home�" Sarah can be reached at srudy@iastate�edu� Sarah Rudy Begins Role as Alpha Mu Graduate Student Advisor AlphA mu looks ForwArd to FAll semester Undergraduates Build off Spring Successes A lpha Mu has continued our spring successes into the fall and looks forward to what the rest of the school year has in store for us� Last spring, we earned a 3�28 GPA, ranking us fourth among fraternities at ISU� We also saw huge success during Greek Week last spring, placing first in community service, dollars raised at Polar Bear Plunge, and the lip synch battle� With these finishes, we were able to clinch second place overall at the end of the week� In April, we held our fourth annual candlelight vigil and 1 Blue String concert to raise awareness for sexual assault� We had a great turn out and are thankful to everyone who came to show their support for this cause� We are also thankful for the women of Pi Beta Phi who helped us host the candlelight vigil and look forward to hosting more events paired with Greek organizations in the future� This fall, we welcomed our brothers and friends back to campus with a bonfire and volleyball under the stars� There was no better way to celebrate being back in Ames and the beginning of a new school year than spending time with our friends� We also welcomed 11 new members this fall and we are confident they will fit in perfectly with our chapter� We're looking forward to seeing them excel as Alpha Mu brothers, on campus and in their various activities� We have a great fall semester ahead and we are excited for our upcoming philanthropy and brotherhood events� Fraternally, Clark Ashland '19 Chapter President cashland@iastate�edu Brothers serenading the women of Pi Beta Phi this fall.
