Volume 115, Fall 2017 Show Alpha Mu Your Support � � � � � � 2 Alumni Weekend � � � � � � � � � � � � � � � � 2 Alpha Mu Looks Forward � � � � � � � � � � 3 Welcome, New Members � � � � � � � � � � 3 T H E A L P H A M U TO M A H AW K Theta Chi Fraternity at Iowa State University GOLDEN AGE FOR ALPHA MU PROMISING FUTURE AHEAD Alpha Mu, Greek Life Thrives at Iowa State T he corn and soybeans are changing color and football is the sport of the season� It is another autumn in the state of Iowa� We had a great turnout for our tailgate and a fine meal prepared by Hickory Park� For those of you who couldn't make it to the game, it was a perfect evening for football and the Cyclones performed well to defeat the University of Northern Iowa� I drove around the campus to see all the changes that have been made since I graduated in 1973� I didn't recognize most of the buildings on the northwest side of the campus� Many of the Greek houses have changed since then for various reasons� The new Sigma Chi house on Lincoln Way is beautiful� The Delta Tau Delta house is equally impressive� The Greek community appears to be thriving on the Iowa State campus� We held our semi-annual board meeting in August� The board was very pleased to hear that the chapter had the best grades and highest ranking among fraternities in quite some time� We also heard a good report about the new pledge class and a plan for recruitment, which should accomplish a full house in the future� As always, we ask that you pass along the names of ISU-bound students who you believe would make good brothers� I would like to thank all alumni who have contributed to the fraternity through the years� Your contributions have allowed the board to award many scholarships to brother Theta Chis and have assisted in the recruitment process� For those of you who work for employers who match gifts, I would ask that you consider making a gift to the Iowa State University Foundation designated to the Theta Chi Scholarship Fund� Fraternally, Ted Hovda '73 Alumni Corporation Board President tshovda@comm1net�net Every spring for the past three decades, several of our Alpha Mu alumni gather in cabins near Highlandville, Iowa, to fish, enjoy nature, and reconnect with their brothers from the 1980s.
