Always Alpha Phi 6 ALUMNAE NEWS SILENT CHAPTER Claire Weaver Cox '47 entered Silent Chapter on May 27 at the age of 89. Claire was born in St. Louis, Mo., and earned her degree in physical education. At Mizzou, Claire was captain of the varsity field hockey team, a member of the University Singers, and a song leader and sports chairwoman for Alpha Phi, leading the chapter to the Woman's Intramural Championship in 1950. Claire married her husband, John Henry, in 1950 and moved to Rock Port where they lived for 61 years, raising three children. Claire was active in her community, even helping to start the first kindergarten in Rock Port. She and John Henry were avid travelers, with numerous trips tied to the Press Association. On the Press trips, Claire wrote detailed travel logs that were published in the Atchison County Mail, of which Claire was a co-owner. Claire's proudest endeavor was raising her children. She loved and sought out all things beautiful, uplifting, and interesting. She is survived by her husband, children, and five grandchildren. Sara Cook Detchon '60 entered Silent Chapter on June 2, 2016, at the age of 74. Sara and her husband, Bob, had three children and many grandchildren. Sara lived in Miami, Fla. Pamela Sheil Stoddard '79 entered Silent Chapter on September 3 at the age of 57. Pam was a pharmacists at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Mo., and was devoted to both her family and her faith. She enjoyed raising her children with her husband, Michael, and was a proud baseball mom. ALUMNAE UPDATE Mary "Koppen" Koppenbrink Clement '44 celebrated her 93rd birthday in September. She lives in her home in Higginsville, Mo., with two pet cats, and has two daughters. Koppen reports that she has poor eyesight but otherwise seems to be okay. Treva Taylor Crismon '49 attended her granddaughter Meghan's wedding in Chicago and granddaughter Leah's graduation in Columbia, enjoying both very much. She makes her home in Eldon, Mo. Ada Klostermayer Gingrich '49 and her husband, Wes, have moved into an independent living cottage in Booneville, Mo. E-mail: awgingrich@sbcglobal.net Mary Storrs Pittman '49 is playing a lot of bridge and enjoys golfing on nice days. Mary is also very active in P.E.O. and lives in Walnut Creek, Calif. E-mail: jgphuckleberry@att.net Carol Eddington Richardson '56 is enjoying her retirement community in Green Valley, Ariz., where she is active in social and volunteer activities as well as a yearly amateur musical. Carol also spends her time volunteering at a nearby national park and writing poetry. E-mail: ccrrllcric@aol.com Sandra Reynolds Yon '57 continues to travel the world and has been to more than 115 countries so far—most recently Korea and China. Sandy still spends many hours at the Virginia Aquarium as a docent and also spends hours on the water teaching people about whales and dolphins. She'd love for women of the late '50s and early '60s to organize another reunion. Sandy lives in Virginia Beach, Va. Kathie Thomas Knehans '66 had a great time at the 1966 pledge class reunion last fall. "Fifty years as Alpha Phis! It was a wonderful, terrific time." Nancy keeps busy with golf, travel, friends, and visits with her three children and four grandchildren. Although Nancy retired in 2013, she is now busier than ever and is looking forward to her trip to Croatia and France this fall. She retired from Chillicothe R-II School District in 2012 after 35 years and is starting her sixth year as elementary principal at Bishop Hogan Memorial School.
