As I write this, I'm packing up my son to start his senior year at the University of Washington. One of my first articles for Entre Nous was four years ago as I first took him to college. It seems like just yesterday. This year, I have three kids in college and, although I think the goodbyes are going to get easier, they never do! Whether you say goodbye on the first day of school to your kindergartner or watch your new driver take off for their first solo car ride, as a mom, it pulls on your heartstrings! The good news is I still have an 8th grader and she is thrilled to finally be the only child! The summer has flown by once again! It's the busiest time for our projects at Pi Phi. Thank you to all our generous alumnae. Your donations have allowed us to complete many projects this summer. We started the Monday after the women left for the summer, and because of our great crew led by Charlie Phillips, we were finished by August 1. Our first project was the mailroom. This room was original and very outdated. No more house phones so no area needed for phone duty. That gave us an opportunity to create lots of built-in closets for packages and we have new mail slots. Crown molding was installed in the foyer, living room, dining room, and music room. We painted the outside of the house and many of the rooms inside as well. The archives closet doubled in size as we combined an old telephone closet and archives as one big room and have built-in closets for many more years of California Gamma history! The members are thrilled about our new kitchen in the rec room on the third floor. We have all-new cabinets, marble countertops, and new stainless appliances. We even have a dishwasher! We resurfaced the parking lot and restriped too. Each year we finish the summer with professional cleaning of all carpets and upholstery, window washing inside and out, and we refresh the garden with new plants and flowers. Our home at 667 West 28th Street sparkles and we are ready for our 100th year anniversary at USC! Please save the date for November 5 for a daytime alumnae reunion planned by our members to celebrate California Gamma's 100th anniversary. Here's to another year of life, love, happiness, and football games!
