6 Lyre Notes ALUMNAE UPDATE CHAPTER ETERNAL Virginia Wood Steinbeck '49 entered Chapter Eternal on June 12 in Rolla, Mo. Virginia was a longtime resident of Butler, Mo., and married her high school sweetheart, Bob, after graduating from Mizzou in 1950. Virginia received her master's degree in education from UMKC and taught for 37 years in Butler at the fourth grade level for 16 years, and kindergarten for the remaining 21. Virginia and Bob had two children and five grandchildren. Donna Pannier Groves '61 entered Chapter Eternal suddenly on April 30. She was the beloved wife of the late Wayne E. Ted Groves; dearest mother of Todd, Jason and Shannon (Bob) Byrd; dear grandmother of Alyssa, Kenna, Molly, Maryssa, Derek and Jocelyn; and dear sister of Deke (Kamahanahokulani) Law and Deanna (Mike Hill) Law. Donna was a graduate of Webster Groves High School and a proud alumna of the University of Missouri. She spent her adult life teaching children and adults with special needs. ALUMNAE NEWS Barbara Beck Beeching '48 has turned her dissertation from when she earned her MA and Ph.D. into a book that was published this year. The book is titled Hopes and Expectations: The Origins of the Black Middle Class in Hartford. Barbara lives in Bloomfield, Conn. Email: bjbeeching@gmail.com LoVene Kraus Claypole '50 attended the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, her fourth such convention. Then, in January 2017, she attended the inauguration in Washington, D.C., as a delegate to the Missouri 7th District. LoVene lives in Springfield, Mo. Sue Leopold Began '62 is getting ready to send her granddaughter off to college. Sue stays busy with her daughter's family's sporting activities. She lives in Neenah, Wis. Email: sbegan99@aol.com Nancy Maute Waggener '71 was happy to reconnect with Barb Ballance Schnelle '71 during her last few trips to Saint Louis before her mother's death. Nancy's mother left her a great gift—money for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to France that she took in September. Her next goal is to meet up with Marilyn Musick '72. Nancy lives in Lynchburg, Va. Lianne works part time teaching middle school art at Trinity Lutheran School and enjoys adult painting classes with other local artists. Email: mholder61@gmail.com Lisa Mallon Thompson '84 practiced law for a while after passing the bar exams in Missouri and California. She married Geoffrey in 1996 and served 10 years on the mission field in Chile. Lisa lived in Colorado for five years, where she became a volunteer firefighter at the age of 50, and now sells luxury real estate in Orange County, Calif. Erin works for Raise.com as the social media manager and was one of the first employees for the startup in 2015. Maggie Hallam '12, Kate Obermeier '11 and Chelsea Hagan '11 planned a surprise private winery tour and tasting in Nashville for the birthday of Taylor Decker '12. Alumnae from the new member classes of 2008 and 2009 met in Columbia this spring to reminisce.
