T he house corporation is proud to announce the completion of numerous upgrades throughout the summer, with major expenditures in two areas: updating the front of the chapter house with a new patio, lighting and landscaping and renovating the two bathrooms on the south side of the house. Those two projects cost approximately $185,000. All alumnae are invited to 900 Richmond to see the changes. The project to update the front of the house resulted in a major facelift and an exciting new look for the chapter house. The second and third floor south bathroom renovations entailed replacing shower stalls with new showers and dressing areas, similar to the renovations completed in 2014 on the north bathrooms. New lighting, mirrors, sinks and toilet stalls also were added. This update was needed not only for appearances but to repair structural damage causing a leak into the TV room and formal room below. We also addressed several security and safety needs by installing two additional security cameras highlighting more of the parking lot and the interior stairwells. An existing camera was repositioned to provide better visibility on the south stairwell. Chapter members should feel more secure with the additional coverage. Another safety project was the installation of heat sensors in the attic to supplement the fire sprinkler system installed in 2012. This was a suggestion, and will soon be a requirement, from our national insurance company. Heat sensors provide a warning for fires starting in the attic that go undetected before the fire sprinkler system detects them. We also installed a fire alarm and strobe in the house director's suite, so the house director will be quickly alerted to any issue. O t h e r w o r k i n c l u d e d n e w carpeting on the spiral stairs to the lower level, replacing AC vents in all the bedrooms, hanging composites in the stairwells, rehanging the photo frames in the bedroom hallways, closet work in a couple of bedrooms and removing furniture for recruitment. Soon, chapter members will have an ice and water dispenser installed on the lower level. Unfortunately, updating the house director's suite and making the President's room ADA compliant were put on hold while we focused on the most critical needs. There's still much to do and we have great plans for next year to ensure that Alpha Chi maintains a top facility for our members. The chapter house received new lighting, which makes the house look great at night.
