W ith the chapter's continued growth, the Corporation Board has worked to meet the ever-changing needs of the house. This summer, the board continued to make progress on planned improvements by starting phase two of the construction plan. The south bathroom on the second floor was fully renovated and now is more functional and very attractive like the other bathrooms on the second and third floors. If you remember the small showers, they are gone and replaced with beautiful full-size showers. Some space was needed from room 20 to complete this update, so rooms 19 and 20 were converted to a suite similar to the third-floor suites. That suite has a study space with a separate sleeping area and walk-in closet. The suite received new windows as well. The courtesy kitchen was also fully renovated. There was a need to make it larger, so it was moved back to allow for the new space, and to utilize a former hall to the dining room. The new courtesy kitchen is about 60% larger and fully functional on weekends for breakfast. It also has a refrigerator and separate ice maker so the new space provides 24/7 access to everything the women may need. Chapter growth led to the decision to add a bathroom to the basement. A beautiful new bathroom was built across from the laundry area. This convenience has been very much appreciated by the members. The Corporation Board is very thankful to our amazing alumnae who continue supporting these construction projects through their generous donations. We would like to continue with phase two of construction by converting the other bedrooms on the north and east sides of the second floor into suites. If you have not made a pledge or donation to the annual giving program, please consider doing so. Your donations help us continue the work on our home. With Xi's total membership at 222, the needs of the house grow as well. We want to keep our house competitive with the others on campus. Sigma Kappa's new house director, Sally Luallen, was hired this summer. Mom Sally was excited for this new challenge in her life. Her daughter, Stacy Luallen Maloney '83, is a Xi alumna. I would like to thank all the members of the Xi Corporation Board for their tireless work on behalf of the chapter and our house. These women are leaving a lasting legacy at Xi. The board is looking for a few new members. If you have a few hours a month to give back to Xi, please contact me. And if you are in Lawrence, please stop by the house to see all the improvements!
