THE FLATIRON Return to ΣΦΕ Roots Ryan Zent '08 Reconnects with Colorado Alpha A flourishing Chapter, Colorado Alpha is dedicated to fostering balanced men who promote exemplary values. Ryan Zent '08 discovered and joined SigEp during a time of transformation and rebuilding of the Fraternity. He and his brothers started out in a small house full of men of upstanding character. "My brothers stood for something greater than themselves," he shared. The brothers wanted to create a fraternity unique to the University of Colorado, and Ryan believed in being a part of such an exciting opportunity. He recalled how his brothers "all held themselves to a higher standard, which encouraged me to do the same." After receiving his bachelors of science in business administration, Ryan moved to New York to work at one of the largest development and construction companies in the world. He enjoyed being a part of the building process and "having an influence in projects that will stand the test of time." After working there for nine years, Ryan has returned to Colorado with his family. He is now the vice president of development for the Michaels Development Company, which focuses on the acquisition and development of affordable housing throughout Colorado and Arizona. Even though Ryan did lose touch with Colorado Alpha while living in New York, he recently had the opportunity to work closely with the active Chapter and executive board. He remains impressed with the Chapter, especially as it has grown to be such a prominent Fraternity at the University of Colorado. He knows, however, that there is still work to be done, and has been helping facilitate repairs and upgrades needed in the Chapter House. Ryan has kept in touch with many of his brothers over the years, some of whom are his closest friends. Since moving back to Colorado, he has reconnected with many other brothers he had previously lost touch with. He revealed, "Becoming more involved in the current Chapter operations and giving back to the house that did so much for me has been a truly rewarding experience." In his spare time, Ryan enjoys fishing and scuba diving, as well as spending time in the Florida Keys. A fellow SigEp taught him how to homebrew beer, which has become an entertaining hobby. Ryan is happily married to his wife, Tracy, and together they welcomed their first child, Max, last June. You can connect with Ryan at ryanzent@gmail.com. We are very excited to show the house to potential new members as well as our current members. RANKED FIFTH IN ACADEMICS During the spring semester of 2017, Sigma Phi Epsilon ranked fifth among all active chapters, earning a GPA of 2.9. The Chapter continues to make strides to raise our GPA above a 3.0 and to beat the all-men's average at Colorado University. VP of Recruitment Jacob Brondum '20 shared, "The grades of our members has continued to improve and we are extremely excited to see what the fall semester has in store for our Fraternity." $20,000+ RAISED FOR CANCER Philanthropy has always been at the heart of our Fraternity and we continue to improve our philanthropic efforts every year. During the spring, the Chapter held our annual Checking for Cancer event. This year we beat our previous donation efforts and were able to raise more than $20,000 for the Jimmy V Foundation. "The continued success and growth of our philanthropy has been a focal point of our Fraternity," explained Max Rubin '18. MANY THANKS, ALUMNI The brotherhood is extremely excited to be back during the fall and invite new members to be a part of the best Fraternity in the country.
