NEW RECRUITMENT PROCESSES HELP BRING IN 70 NEW TRI DELTAS T he Theta Omega Chapter started this new school year off with a bang. Our chapter had an extremely successful recruitment and we are excited to welcome 70 new members to our beautiful house. This year recruitment was centered on Tri Delta's values and what this organization truly means and does for it members. We also focused on the many changes Panhellenic at KU has gone through in the last few years to make recruitment a values-based process. The changes that were prominent include no skits, no food, and a two-party preference round for potential new members. All these changes were an adjustment for our chapter and the KU community, but it's a way our system is positively moving forward. Another major focus for our chapter during this recruitment process was our individual characteristics and love for Tri Delta. We tried to show our personalities and love for Tri Delta through new porch songs, presentations, videos, and stories. Recruitment week was such a wonderful week for our chapter, and again we are over the moon with the amazing new member class we have. Before the school year started, the chapter was excited to learn that we received a cumulative GPA of a 3.4 last semester, which is higher than the goal we set for ourselves. We are also ecstatic to announce that due to this GPA we are near the front of the pack for academics. We are truly proud of this accomplishment, and hope to continue our growth in the academic field. Also, a big thank-you to all of our alumnae. We would be lost without your love and support. Delta Love, Bronwyn Troxel '14 Chapter President kutrideltaprez@gmail.com Four Scholarships Awarded at Pansy Brunch A t Pansy Barbecue Brunch on April 30, the Theta Omega of Delta Delta Delta Educational Foundation awarded four scholarships—totaling $2,500—to deserving Theta Omega Chapter members. For the second year, we awarded the Noreen Checchi Dupriest Scholarship of $1,000, made possible by a generous donation from the Dupriest family. This scholarship is given to a junior status member with a minimum 2.9 GPA and financial need, and requires submission of an essay on what Delta Delta Delta has meant to the individual. The award went to Allison Ryburn '16 from Grinnell, Kansas, a small community (her high school graduating class was 12), who is hoping to become an occupational therapist. The Barbara Lawrence Leadership Scholarship of $500 is awarded to a member who is active in campus and community activities with a minimum 3.0 GPA. The scholarship was given to Mary Kate Shellworth '15 from Clovis, California. Mary Kate has served as both vice president of administration and Homecoming chairman of Theta Omega, and has been a frequent volunteer for Neuvant House (a home for disabled seniors). The Dr. Cora Downs Scholarship of $500 is presented to a member who has demonstrated outstanding service and/ or leadership in Theta Omega with a minimum 3.0 GPA. As many of you might remember, Dr. Downs, an outstanding internationally recognized microbiologist and professor at the University of Kansas, was the first initiate of Theta Omega. KU recently announced that the new residence hall on campus will bear her name. Her pin is framed and hangs in the chapter living room. This year's recipient is Abby Eleeson '15 from Fenton, Missouri. One of her major accomplishments was the development of a new academic probation program. The Pat Domann Most Exemplary Member Scholarship of $500 is given to a member who most demonstrates the true spirit of Delta Delta Delta by exemplifying devotion to and compassion for the welfare of her sorority sisters, as well as the welfare of others around her. Current chapter members make nominations for this award by submitting a letter of recommendation explaining why the individual is deserving. This year's recipient is Bronwyn Troxel '14 from Olathe, Kansas. She is currently serving as president of the chapter and double-majoring in communications and theatre performance. Congratulations to this year's scholarship recipients!
