If you are reading this, more than likely you are living in a RV, so I don't have to tell you that space is a premi- um. Let's face it – we do tend to col- lect too much stuff! Personally, I live in a tiny house – all of 82 square feet! I recent- ly had to purge my tiny house contents. I was literally starting to trip over things. Acquiring more space can be achieved in one of two ways: buying a bigger rig, or cleaning out the one you have. As the saying goes, "nature ab- hors a vacuum". Which means, if you buy a bigger rig, you'll just be collect- ing more crap! Awhile back, somebody in the tiny home community came up with the con- cept of the "One Hundred Item Rule". As far as I know, this is per person. That is, you can possess no more than 100 items in your RV or tiny house at any one time. This includes underwear, your toothbrush, hair dryer, pots, pans, Pez dispensers, cans of Garbonzo beans, silverware, DVD's, toilet paper, etc. This concept may seem pretty extreme to some, but Tiny House it does keep a lid on the crap that we tend to hold onto and encroaching on our space. So, let's just say you took inventory, and you are at the 100-item mark. You decide to pop down to a local garage sale and buy a used book – "Earthworms of the Southwest". In theory, when you take it home, something's gotta go! Now, personally, I haven't taken an inventory of my tiny house. I can't tell you if I have over 100 items or not. I probably should just out of curiosity sake. I do know that I have clothes that I haven't worn in over a year. Perfect candidate for the Salvation Army. I just hope I'll never have to decide be- tween chucking a Simpson's DVD and a pair of boxers. Don Newquist holds a BSET from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA.
