The much-honored HBO comedy will have one more season, its seventh, and it reportedly was the producers' idea to wrap up the show. One has to believe that's the fact, since given the wide acclaim and multiple Emmy wins by star Julia Lou- is-Dreyfus, the cable network likely would have preferred to keep the series going for as long as it could. You can expect to see those final epi- sodes next year. Q : Finally, there was a good show on Saturday nights. I started watching "Doubt," not knowing a thing about it. I can't imag- ine why they canceled this show. Wouldn't they give it another chance? — Leslie D'Alessandro, Boynton Beach, Fla. A : Actually, it was getting "another chance" when you saw it on Saturdays — but by then, the die was cast. In the winter, CBS yanked the Katherine Heigl-starring drama after only two airings on Wednesdays, since it ran into immediate ratings trouble. By the time the remaining episodes were "burned off" on summer Saturdays, the show had been canceled. One of its other stars is bouncing back fast in another CBS series, though. Elliott Gould plays Mark Feuerstein's father in the sitcom "9JKL," which premieres this Monday, Oct. 2. Q : I like ABC reporter Phil- lip Mena, but I haven't seen him lately. He left ABC News during the summer to join NBC, where he now co-anchor "Early Today" with Frances Rivera, and he also is a weekend fill-in anchor on MSNBC. Recently, he was in the thick of the coverage of Hurricane Irma for the two outlets. The move brings Mena back to his roots in a sense, since he had been an anchor-reporter for NBC's Houston affiliate KPRC before joining ABC News.
