PAGE 2 TAU TOPICS T he University of Florida is a premier institution, which allows Tau Chapter to pledge top recruits to continue the tradition of leading the way, not only for other fraternities on campus, but Theta Chi nationally. The opportunities for leadership in Tau Chapter were influential for Josh Weingard '91, and he now chooses to donate and serve on numerous boards for UF and Tau Chapter to ensure the same opportunities are available for current students. When Josh came to UF in fall 1990, he was a shy individual but knew he wanted to be involved. Jared Kay '87, who was a senior when Josh was a freshman, introduced him not only to Greek life, but his future home at Theta Chi. The two remain friends to this day. Josh's involvement within the fraternity and the university empowered him to take on numerous leadership roles during his years in Gainesville, including serving as the treasurer of Tau Chapter, Florida Blue Key President and being appointed to the Tau Chapter Realty Board, where he served for 15 years. Josh was inducted into the UF Hall of Fame as a student. Some of his favorite memories include meeting his future wife, Lizette, in 1991; spring break cruises in 1993 and 1994 with Dave Gordon '91, Judd Fuhr '91, and Jason Tunick '92; Tau Chapter winning the Altar Award for best Theta Chi Chapter in 1995; and the election of Chris Dorworth '95 as UF student body president in 1997. Josh also often thinks about those brothers who passed away during his years in Gainesville: Bob Baxter '89, Jason Cherner '89 (who introduced Josh and Lizette) and Al Torchia '88. The camaraderie Josh felt after initiation is still strong today. Josh regularly keeps in touch with many Theta Chis, including Jeff Gottlieb '92 (his best friend since 4th grade), George Kramer '96, Zach Mazin '96, Clay Sweger '97, Chris Dorworth '95 and Richard Rosenblatt '98. One of his proudest moments as an alumnus was when his two younger brothers, Aron '03 and Robert '05, joined Theta Chi. His time spent at UF was so influential that he chooses to continue to give back to the fraternity and the University of Florida. Josh currently serves on the Tau Chapter Foundation Board, the UF Law School Alumni Council and he was recently elected to the UF Alumni Association Board of Directors. Josh was involved on the Executive Committee for the Celebrating the Legacy, Forging the Future capital campaign, along with George Kramer and many other brothers. "Opening the new Chapter House was an unforgettable and valuable experience. The campaign was instrumental to strengthening our Chapter's solidarity and brotherhood, and I'm thankful to alumni who donated." Today, Josh serves as the Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Counsel of several public companies. He lives in Miami with his wife, Lizette. The couple met at Theta Chi in 1991 and were married in 1996. Josh and Lizette have two children: Jared (16) and Lindsey (14). Josh encourages other alumni to come back to Gator games and visit the Chapter House as a way to reconnect with the Chapter.
