page 3 alpha chi omega T he chapter and the Educational Corporation have been working together diligently to increase members' GPAs and the overall ranking of the chapter, and we are seeing improvement. Based on the spring 2017 grades, the chapter had 32% of its members on the dean's list with 18 women earning 4.0s. With the movement of the chapter's GPA to 3.33, Alpha Chi now ranks 11th of 16 sororities on campus. The difference that divides Xi from being a top five chapter is .07. The chapter's leadership is dedicated to helping collegians develop their study skills. Last year, there were nearly 40 actives on academic probation, but as of the 2017 spring grade report there are only 18. During recruitment, a hard look was given to the academic potential of a prospective member and only women with strong GPAs were considered—another step in the right direction. The Educational Corporation plans to continue providing scholarships that acknowledge the progress chapter members have made. Due to your donations these scholarships have been possible and recognize the members who meet any of the following criteria: w Most improved GPA by class w First-year student with 4.0 w Accumulative 4.0 w Dean's list New Inspiration Award Program! Our long-term vision is to recognize every member of Xi with an academic scholarship. To maintain funds to support these scholarships, the Educational Corporation is kicking off a new fundraiser to acknowledge women who have inspired you. We are excited to recognize the exceptional women who make up our sisterhood! Do you have a sister who has inspired you in some way? Take a second to think about the sisters who have impacted you and nominate them today. When you purchase a nomination you make an investment that impacts the lives of members and inspires them to make a difference in the lives of others. Inspiration award nominations are $20 per person and you may recognize as many alumnae or collegiate sisters as you wish. The nomination form can be found on both the chapter and alumnae Facebook pages and mailed with your check to Alpha Chi Omega, P.O. Box 93, Ogallala, NE 69153-0093. Please make your check payable to Xi Chapter Educational Corporation to ensure your donation is credited to this program and eligible for a tax receipt. Nominations will also be taken during the State Day celebration on October 21 (see page 1 for details). Nominations received by February 1 will be acknowledged in the spring newsletter. Please consider sponsoring the Educational Corporation's efforts through the inspiration award program or other donation and help us improve Alpha Chi's standing at the UNL campus. Loyally, Denise McLain '81 Xi Chapter Educational Corporation President denise_mclain@gallup.com From the Desk of the President: Xi's Chapter Report T he members of Alpha Chi Omega are very excited to be starting a new semester. This fall, Alpha Chi Omega recruited a new pledge class of 52 members, started classes, and began filling the chapter house with a new group of women. Our members are already getting acquainted and are forming unbreakable bonds with one another. Xi Rolling Out New Fall Philanthropy This semester Alpha Chi Omega is excited to introduce a new philanthropic event. In the past the chapter has participated in Chips and Dip and Bubble Ball, but in order to increase the amount of funds raised for the Friendship Home, the chapter is excited to hold a flag football tournament. (I'm sure there is a catchy slogan to go along with the event very soon!). Vice President of Philanthropy Sloan Johnson '15 is very passionate about increasing the amount raised for our local shelter here in Lincoln. We want to raise a substantial amount for the Friendship Home and hope to double the $7,500 we donated last spring from Raising the Roof. Alpha Chis and Academics Already this September the chapter held an Academic Recognition Ceremony to celebrate the women of the chapter with outstanding academic accomplishments. Vice President of Intellectual Development Lauren O'Malley '15 is invested in the academic improvement of the chapter and worked hard to ensure our recruitment process focused on women who already hold the Alpha Chi criteria of academic interest! We are excited for a fresh start this year and can't wait to see what this new chapter brings. Please follow us on social media to keep in touch with us this year!
