BETA TIDINGS A PUBLICATION OF BETA SIGMA PSI AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY FALL 2017 InsIde: ALUMNUS SPOTLIGHT 2 ALUMNI UPDATE 2 FRONT PORCH AND SIDE STEPS RECONSTRUCTED 3 BETA SIGMA PSI EXCELS ACADEMICALLY Brothers Open Chapter House to ULu B eta Sigma Psi has accomplished many things this past spring semester and within the summer. We are in the midst of the fall semester and are excited for the things that are ahead of us. Academics on the Rise This past semester, Beta Sigma Psi posted an above IFC average GPA and improved our cumulative average for consecutive semesters. Our spring semester GPA was a 3.02 and cumulative is at a 3.1. We plan to continue the upward trend for academic success. Campus Involvement We also stayed involved with on-campus activities including intramural sports and the Purdue Grand Prix where we put on quite the spectacle with a few intense collisions. Let's just say the driver fared far better than the kart! Productive Summer This summer, many of the members of Beta Chapter worked at various companies, research programs, and participated in many other camps and activities. It was certainly hard to keep track of everyone's summer plans when some of us stayed in Indiana while others worked in Colorado, Missouri, Illinois, and even abroad in Germany. It is always exciting to hear about the work each of us gets involved in and I enjoyed catching up with brothers! Hosting University Lutheran Church Looking forward this semester, we are very excited to be hosting University Lutheran Church services at the chapter house until construction completes at the new sanctuary. We hope to host services outdoors when weather permits and use this as a great opportunity to get to know better our church community! New Recruitment Software Another exciting development for the Purdue fraternity, sorority and cooperative life is the introduction of a new recruitment software. Our recruitment chairmen have been working to set up accounts for the house and we will be using this tool with all the freshman who plan to rush as a way to communicate and provide information on Beta Sigma Psi. Everyone has a very recruitment focused mindset as we continue to grow and build! Goals Set After such a positive semester and enjoyable summer we seem to be ready to get back to campus and continue to improve ourselves in line with the three S's. We have set our goals and have a well-rounded and experienced group of men ready to take the next required steps. Finally, I would like to thank all who support us. If it wasn't for the alumni and all those associated it would be far harder to continue to improve Beta Chapter. The house is always open to your visits and if you would like to attend any events, meetings or the upcoming church services and would like more details, please do not hesitate to ask for information. Yours in Christ, Kevin Schiff '16 Chapter President betasigs.executive@gmail.com Dan Scheuman '15 accepting a scholarship and award from the CEO of Bunge after working there this summer. The Grand Prix team following this year's race. Josh Porter '15 proved to be more resilient than the kart! Despite working all summer long, Dillion Greiwe '16 still found time to reel in dinner every once in a while.
