A Rockin' Prophecy fl avor and very animated style that the strong relationship between the band members lends to our music — whether we're playing a cover, or an original tune. We are gritty, even a little trashy; our style gives off a vibe that spreads through the audience! Folks can feel that we're having an absolute blast playing for them — and that feeling is infectious! UCW: Who are your favorite bands/infl uences on your music? P: The tunes we choose are all from artists who infl uence us, though we play those tunes in our own way (with a little trash added!) — from the classic rock of Ted Nugent, Steppenwolf (a la Hinder), Jimmy Hendrix, Tom Petty, Aerosmith and Neil Young, to alternative artists like Seven Mary Three, Oasis, Sublime, Collective Soul, Sick Puppies, Fuel and many more; there's a smattering of Southern rock in the mix (Skynyrd, ZZ-Top) and grunge (Nirvana), as well as some of the more potent tunes of Godsmack, Three Days Grace, Staind, Stone Temple Pilots, and even a touch of Zakk Wylde. UCW: Do you write your own music and where does that inspiration come from? P: We do indeed write our own music (see www.facebook.com/ recently heard from Prophecy. Here's a look at what the band has been up to. UCW: Who are your band members and what instruments do they play? P: Brian Wickman plays drums; Jeff Wickman is on rhythm guitar and backing vocals; Gary Wilkins plays bass guitar, backing vocals; Gus Vasilopoulos is on lead guitar and backing vocals; Aaron Mason is on lead vocals. Mason is a former American Idol contestant. UCW: How did the band get its name? P: The fellow who suggested the name Prophecy had a personal fascination with the ancient Mayans and their foretelling of major future changes (i.e., there's no religious connection). "Prophecy" alludes to our determination to have a major future impact, first on the local Fayetteville music scene, and then onward to whatever outer limits our talent and drive can take us. That impact has already begun, and it is rapidly gaining momentum! UCW: How would you define your music? P: A powerful mix of many rock infl uences performed with the unique by STEPHANIE CRIDER Up & Coming Weekly OCT. 20 • BOB MARLOW AND GYPSYWOMEN GOLF TOURNAMENT at Legends Pub. Our inspiration comes from life events — the good, the bad, and the ugly — as well as from our dissatisfaction with the human fascination for commercialism. UCW: If you only had two words to describe your band what would they be? P: Rocking cosmonauts. UCW: What are your hopes/goals for the future of your band? P: Improve both our sound and our performance to the fullest extent possible. Our overriding desire is to deliver our audiences and fans such an incredible evening of great music and positive feeling that they will be unable to stop talking about it for days afterward! That is how we measure our success. Although we hope eventually to bring our original music to a wider audience, we do not intend to ever lose track of either our roots, or the desire to deliver a top notch effort every time. We want to provide a great sense of satisfaction and fulfi llment--and that is never going to change! UCW: Where do you see the band fi ve years, 10 years from now? P: Wherever our dedication, determination, and fans take us — we'll keep on rockin' audiences in the free world ... we're taking the future head on! STEPHANIE CRIDER, Associate Editor. COMMENTS?
