Spooky Happenings Downtown! Downtown has been described as trendy, artsy, charming, picturesque, creative and diverse, but spooky? Well, there are plenty of scary, creepy, but fun events happening this Halloween for children and adults! Historic Hauntings: A Ghastly Ghost Tour The staff of the award-winning Dogwood Festival brings you Historic Hauntings: A Ghastly Ghost Tour, a haunted hayride narrated with tales of "eerie encounters and mysterious happenings of downtown Fayetteville." This tour takes you to historic sites and around downtown on Oct. 18-20 and 25-27 departing from 225 Dick Street. Tickets are $15 and must be purchased in advance. Heritage Square Haunted House After your Historic Hauntings hay ride, visit the basement for a chilling look into the Woman's Club Haunted Heritage Square! Tickets are $5. Hallows Eve Cemetery Walk City Historian Bruce Daws will lead a walking tour through Cross Creek Cemetery on Oct. 30 giving details on people and events that have taken place in the cemetery. Tours are an hour long and begin at 7 p.m. with the last tour at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 and proceeds go towards the restoration of Cross Creek Cemetery. You might see zombies on TV, but downtown has the real costumed deal when zombies come out for a procession down Hay Street this 4th Friday, Oct. 26. The ever popular, yet extremely scary event brings the masses down in costume and makeup to revel in, well, all things zombie. Also, a Zombie Aerial Circus will be performed at The Climbing Place beginning at 9 p.m. For more information, visit Fourth Friday Fayetteville on Facebook. FYP Halloween Hike On Oct. 27, Fayetteville Young Professionals will be hosting its 4th Annual Halloween Hike including a costume contest and an organized pub crawl. Fayetteville Young Professionals members and their guests must register in advance for this event. Visit www.fayyp.org for more information. Halloween Activities at the Museum of the Cape Fear Complex A Victorian Halloween is being featured at scheduled times now until Oct. 31 with a free tour to learn about the Poe House and traditional Halloween decor. A Jack-O- Lantern contest will be held Oct. 15-27. Enter yours to win through various categories and age groups beginning Oct. 15. And from Oct. 19-20 and 26-27, celebrate Hallowe'en Revels where the actors from The Gilbert Theater will portray members of the Poe Household for a true Hallowen themed tour. Tours are free, but limited to 20 per tour. Of course, if that was not enough, the Poe House Trick or Treat will be held Oct. 27 from 1-5 p.m. This free event features a costume contest, a scavenger hunt, traditional carnival games and more! Downtown merchants will be treating pint-size ghosties and ghouls with candy delights (as supplies last) on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. Come bring your children dressed in the Halloween best for a safe, well-lit place to Trick or Treat!
