COMMUNITY NEWS COMMUNITY NEWS Cape Fear Kiwanis Club Hosts Golf Charity Event On Friday, Oct. 19, The Cape Fear Kiwanis Club hosts its 18th Annual Cape Fear Kiwanis Club Golf Charity at Cypress Lakes Golf Course. Check- in starts at 10:30 a.m. and runs through 12:30 p.m. From 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. there will be a putting contest, followed by a shotgun start for the event at 12:30 p.m. A grilled hotdog lunch will be served before the tournament begins. The day ends at 5:30 p.m. with a steak dinner and awards presentation., Each year, Cape Fear Kiwanis invests heavily in the community. This year, the organization has budgeted $56,500 to be donated to several organizations, with funds going to Young Children Priority One, The Care Clinic, Boys and Girls Club, Westminister Springfest, The "Bringing Up Grades" Program, scholarships, four area Key Clubs, Kiwanis Foundation (district and international), Armed Forces YMCA-District 6 Little League Ball, Boys' Home Operation and Activities, Friends of Cumberland County Library and Safe Landing. Find out more at www.cypresslakesnc.com. 2nd Annual Bras for the Brave Sew & Sews place presents the 2nd Annual Bras for the Brave: Artful Bras Against Breast Cancer Auction on Oct. 19. The show's participants were challenged to decorate a size 36C bra for the event and share their story to hang with the bra throughout the exhibit. Some of the bras memorialize and honor breast cancer survivors and are meant to offer strength and hope to the brave women who battle this disease. Prizes will be awarded for Show Me the Ta-Ta$$, Choice and Audrey's Fayetteville Tech Awarded $595,000 North Carolina Back-to-Work Grant Fayetteville Technical Community College has been awarded a $595,000 allocation from the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges to implement the North Carolina Back-to-Work program established by the General Assembly. FTCC will use the funds to implement a Back-to-Work program to prepare more than 1,400 locally unemployed individuals to fi ll some of the documented 2,800 positions requiring industry-recognized certifi cations in the region. The program will focus on a variety of existing resources to successfully channel long-term unemployed individuals into needed training, certifi cation and employment. A key component of FTCC's Back-to-Work program is to locate and recruit individuals who are currently unemployed or under-employed to provide them with skills to obtain employment in designated areas. FTCC currently has productive partnerships with several agencies in Cumberland County to proactively recruit clients for the program. These organizations all have programs to help their clients fi nd employment. The agencies are: Center for Economic Empowerment Development, Cumberland County JobLink Career Center, Cumberland County Public Library Career Centers, Cumberland County Workforce Development Board, Division of Workforce Solutions (formerly Employment Security Commission), Fayetteville Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Fort Bragg Regional Alliance.
