THE VISION "The Preeminent Fraternity on the West Coast" T he Launch and Sustain phases of our plan began in 2005 and successfully concluded in September 2008 with relaunching Washington Chapter and raising over $500,000 to support the relaunch. The next step is to address Washington Chapter's housing needs. Built in 1928, with the addition constructed in 1970, our chapter house has been a part of our legacy for 88 years and is showing its age. At the present time, the Alumni Association budgets approximately $100,000 a year to keep the facility running. Savings will be realized from meeting modern energy codes and efficiencies. It is clear that we must make a major investment in our chapter house if we are to provide a safe living environment and provide a facility that makes us competitive into the next 100 years. SAFETY The safety of our live-in members is important. We are committed to offering a structurally sound and safe home, much like our personal homes, that instills confidence in our members and their parents. Design elements will be incorporated to ensure a safe facility that is uniquely required for fraternities. EXCELLENCE UW is as academically challenging as ever and our members are requesting and need enhanced, quiet, well-lit, and comfortable study space within our facility. We have all seen the impact of technology over the years, as devices not present during your college years are now necessities. Our plan will ensure that Washington Chapter excels academically and remains a scholastic leader at UW. Additionally, our plan focuses on retaining upperclassmen (seniors) in the house as this is viewed by undergraduates and alumni alike as being fundamental to providing the kind of leadership and mentoring that is an essential part of the Alpha Delt experience. The design calls for special space for upperclassmen (seniors) to discourage significant off-site living that has been seen in recent years. COMPETITION While we continue to attract some of UW's top men, we know that we are losing quality potential members to other fraternities that offer better facilities. Chi Psi, Theta Delta Chi, and Delta Tau Delta have recently completed renovations, while Alpha Sigma Phi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Tau Kappa Epsilon are in the planning stages of major remodels. We must also compete with the amenities offered in off-campus apartments and newly renovated on-campus residence halls, including Terry and Lander and the new Maple Hall, which opened in the fall of 2015. In short, the current situation has resulted in a proverbial arms race of upgrading Greek facilities and university housing. Upon the relaunch of our chapter in 2008, it was the stated objective of the Alumni Association to become the preeminent fraternity on the West Coast. In order to achieve this goal, we must make a major investment in our facility. Did you know? Residential facilities on campus are the second most important factor in the college decision-making process. – The Impact of Facilities on Recruitment and Retention of Students by David Cain, Ph.D. and Gary L.
