Nancy Tucker of Yuma has been appoint- ed to serve as liaison to the district, which includes communities in Gila, La Paz, Maricopa, Mohave, Pinal, Yavapai and Yuma Counties. Founded in 2006, AMAC is an extraordinary force in our nation's Capital, offering new perspectives on how to best solve problems faced by the 50+ population. The orga- nization addresses multiple issues, including runaway taxes, excessive government involvement in daily living, and the erosion of account- ability at all levels of government. Tucker is a long-time Yuma resi- dent. With professional experience in high-tech start-ups, Fortune 500 corporations, educational institu- tions, and not-for-profi t organiza- tions, she brings a multi-faceted perspective to this role. I will be working with the VFW and other military groups to build this monument to honor everyone who has or is wearing the uniform to show them the respect they are due. We are hoping that a lot of other people who feel the same will want to volunteer for these monuments and help get them done with us. There will also be two monuments to honor Fire and Rescue and Law Enforcement, one on each side of the 9/11 monument. Chief Hess and his wonderful crew have said they would help build the monument for the Fire Dept. and Rescue one, and am hoping to have the Police and other Law Enforcement groups do the same with theirs. We will be having several work sessions and also a couple of fundraisers to buy whatever insignias, logos, fl ags, etc. will be needed to complete the mon- uments. Maybe bake sales, pancake breakfast, chili lunch, dinners, etc. - anything that can help get what is needed to fi nish off the monuments and landscape the areas. The other two monuments will include any other groups of fi rst re- sponders--BLM, Search and Res- cue, Fish and Game and Wildlife, etc. (they all work on wildfi res and water rescues, etc.) There will be a special area on one of the monu- ments here to recognize the Yarnell 19 fi refi ghters who lost their lives when their Hotshots were all killed during the wildfi re in Yarnell sever- al years ago--they were also remem- bered at the dedication ceremony and their names were read and the bells tolled for each of them. It was a beautiful ceremony. This summer has been so hot and humid that the plans we had to work on some of these monuments had to be put on hold--I just could not ask anyone to work outside in this weath- er and I know I could not do it either, so we will schedule several work ses- sions during the winter. With some fundraisers to help with the cost of the monuments, we hope we can muster up some enthusiasm and volunteers who would be willing to give some time to help get this area done. We are look- ing for anyone with experience laying blocks, mixing cement, and mortar, placing rocks on cement bases, raking, moving rocks, and doing some land- scaping with trees, bushes and cacti. If you are unable to do labor like that but still would like to help, any work sessions we schedule will have a picnic lunch provided and we can always use some people to help set up and serve lunch to the hard workers! With the cooperation of the Parks and Recreation Board, and its members, and also The Town Of Quartzsite and town employees from Parks and Rec. and Public Works, this area has been worked on over the last year to include the building of the bell arch and the hanging of the bells, as well as a lot of gravelling done too. There is still a lot of things to do this winter, and we can really use some help, even if you only have a little time, it will make a difference. Please volunteer if you can, and be sure to come out to the special 9/11 remembrance at the Heroes Bell Gardens at the southwest corner of Celia's Rain- bow Gardens on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 at 6pm and show your re- spect and support for these heroes!
