Summer 2017 TAU TALES kualphadeltapi.com For more than 60 years, the women of Tau have called 1600 Oxford Road home. Built on a corner lot just blocks from main campus, the Chapter House requires a keen eye to maintain the historical beauty of the structure and ensure it's in tip-top shape for alumnae and the 90 collegians who reside there. For the past five years, that responsibility has laid on the shoulders of resident handyman Larry Oelschlaeger. "There is always something new going on in the house. Every day is different. Some nice improvements were made during recent years and this summer will be another," said Larry, referring to the "Building Pride" renovation project which will update the facade and grounds to a more traditional Greek revival look. Whether it's working with contractors on this summer's planned exterior renovation, overseeing annual inspections, or fixing a leaky bathroom faucet, Larry is Tau's go-to person for all issues related to the preventative and daily maintenance of the home. "In a large, older house issues are bound to arise," said Tau Corporation Board Member Kara Friedman '95. "Larry is always immediately available and provides smart solutions. He has a consistent attention to detail and is proactive with needed maintenance. He understands that the Chapter House is more than a building, it is a home for our collegians, and he treats it as such." For Larry, working alongside Tau collegians helps keep the job interesting. "For the most part I stay out of their way, but I like seeing the projects they're working on – event banners and Homecoming parade floats. I enjoy the energy of young people," he said. When he's not at ADPi, you'll likely find Larry hanging out with his four grandchildren, cycling, or working on the house he and his father built from the ground up. Whether it's his own home or ours, Larry understands the value of regular maintenance and upkeep. Because of his efforts, the Tau Chapter House is sure to be home for KU ADPi collegians for generations to come. Larry Oelschlaeger: Maintaining Tau's Beauty for Generations to Come ADPi women make a regular occurrence at KU basketball games - especially in the front row sections! Our camping groups are strong and spirited. Larry Oelschlaeger's efforts as the handyman for the Tau Chapter House ensures the house remains in excellent condition for the 90 collegians who reside there.
