14 www.DesertMessenger.com July 12, 2017 Rubber Duck Race fun The Salvation Army happenings We hope everyone is checking on your neighbors with these hot tem- peratures. We are proving a cold bottle of water for our shoppers or anyone needing a cool place to relax. For those of you who enjoy reading a good hardback fi ction book, our book department is being alphabet- ized for easy selection by author. Non-Fiction books will have their own shelf now too. A reminder that we are no longer accepting used mattresses. We are not able to sanitize them. We were delighted to sponsor 12 community children to attend The Salvation Army Discovery Camp at Ponderosa Ranch in Heber, AZ June 19-23. They spent fi ve days making new friends and participat- ing in fun activities like rock wall climbing, basket making, Botany, wood crafts, pathfi nding, and Na- tive American lore. There were also sports, scouting adventures, music and art activities. Thanks to the Town of Quartzsite Transit, the kids were transported in the newest Quartzsite bus by driver Jonathan and chaperoned by teacher Heath- er. This unforgettable experience was funded through our Red Kettle Campaign that so many of you gra- ciously gave to last holiday season. As stated in the camp brochure, "What they take home won't fi t in a backpack!" Stated by one of the re- turning kiddos, when asked, "What did you think?"... "The best week of my life!" With the hot weather, we are ac- cepting donations during business hours. Donations have been wonder- ful. Thanks! If you have a special do- nation afterhours, please call and let me know. I am close by with a phone call 360-921-7571. We are report- ing with camera pictures afterhours dumping to QPD- leaving garbage- what you wouldn't give to a friend. Thanks for your cooperation. We received a like new Crow River wheelchair platform lift. This was carefully removed by one of our volun- teers from the donor's van. Pictures in store to show installed appearance. Priced to sell. Come and see. A reminder we are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8:00 to NOON. I see the best in everyone, and they respond in kind. Stay happy and drink plenty of water. Lee-Ann Henle, TSA Manager The Quartzsite Chamber & Tourism hosted a Rubber Duck Race at the Independence Day festivities. The Grand Prize winner of Giant duck with camel necklace was Bobby & Kenda Ketcherside of Mr. Kool Seal. And they won the beautiful quilt made by Barbara Peard. John Hogue won the Amethyst Cathedral donated by Hardies Beads & Jewelry. Marilyn McFate won the single burner stove with fuel donated by RV Lifestyles. The race track was an experiment which turned into a water slide for the kiddos and will be improved upon next year. The organizers wish to thank all the businesses who donated prizes and all of the participants. | C T S A | S BC JULY 4TH FUN | S BC
