Tuesday, September 25, 2012 – Daily News sity, Chico anthropology professor Jesse Dizard has created a documentary film, "Someone You Know," about the high rates of sexu- al assault in the United States. more than 45 hours of footage into a 22-minute film. He worked from Febru- ary 2011 until June 2012 with what he calls a "dedi- cated and savvy" group of students—including assis- tant directors Hannah Clause and Nicole Hook, editor Santy Gray and pho- tographer Jack Goldberg— through the Advanced Lab- oratory for Visual Anthro- pology, using the lab's state-of-the-art video cam- eras and other equipment. They interviewed more than 30 people and cut Anthropology professor Brian Brazeal served as executive producer. Brazeal renovated the visual anthro- pology lab and purchased a Red Digital Still Motion Picture camera in 2011 thanks to a $286,646 grant from the National Science Foundation's Major Research Instrumentation Program. He describes the lab as "a unique facility, unmatched by any [acade- mic] laboratory for anthro- pological cinema." The resulting film looks closely at the troubling real- ities of sexual assault, par- ticularly on college campus- es: Women are most likely to be attacked by someone they know and often trust. Every two minutes, some- one is sexually assaulted in the United States. The film features many people from the CSU, Chico community, includ- ing students, counselors, campus police and sur- vivors of sexual assault. "Participating in the pro- ject was meaningful to me, as I work with so many stu- dents who are survivors of sexual assault," said Mimi Bommersbach, a counselor at the Counseling and Well- ness Center. Voter registration can be completed at the Democrats' newly opened Corning Election Headquarters at 1311 Solano St., online at www.registertovote.ca.gov or by complet- ing a registration form at a local post office. Voter Registration Day follows the his- toric action on Sept. 19 by state lawmakers and voter advocates in making online voter registration available for eligible voters who have not registered. With the Oct. 22 voter registration dead- rity number which is then checked by the Secretary of State against their driver's license or state identification card. Eighteen year old Luke Kitchel, a Los Molinos resident and June graduate of Red Bluff High, when visiting the UC Santa Cruz web site last Wednesday, the first day of online registration, clicked on the www.registertovote.ca.gov link and was one of the early online registrants in Cali- fornia. Luke, a recipient of NFIB's Young Entrepreneur Scholarship, and scholarships from the Sunrise Rotary and Red Bluff Rotary, is beginning his freshman year this week as a business major at UC Santa Cruz.
