HONORING OUR PAST - BUILDING OUR ALPHA PSI FUTURE
Alpha Psi's Facility
Needs and Opportunities
T
he Alpha Psi Chapter was founded October 8, 1949.
Our 29 Charter members were initiated by members
of the Iota Club (Washington University in St. Louis).
Our first house was located on State Street (North of the
TKE house) and we initiated another 30 young men at
various times in the next 12 months. We bought the 1605
Pine Street property in 1957. In 1960, we built the current
annex. In the early morning of November 14, 1971, a
malfunction in the furnace started a fire that resulted in the
total loss of the original chapter house. After demolition,
the groundbreaking for the new house (current dining and
kitchen facilities) happened in the spring of 1972 with plans
to revamp the annex at a later date. The latter has never
happened. The property has remained virtually unchanged
since the 1972 rebuild.
The 1203 State Street
house was the founding
location in 1949.
