W hile the Alpha Nu experience is certainly more than the bricks and mortar of the Chapter House, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our brothers and as a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. Built in 1948, 2701 Nueces Street has been a part of Alpha Nu's legacy for nearly 70 years and is showing its age. It has become clear we must make a major investment in our Chapter House if we are to remain competitive, provide a quality living environment, and enrich the brotherhood each of us helped to create. Setting Ourselves Apart The UT fraternity system is as dominant as ever. Students recognize the value of a positive fraternity experience in a top chapter. Within the last 10 years, a number of the fraternities on campus have responded to the competition by making significant investments toward upgrading or replacing their residential facilities; Alpha Tau Omega, Beta Theta Pi, Fiji, Delta Tau Delta, Kappa Sigma, Phi Kappa Psi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Sigma Phi Epsilon have developed plans, begun, or completed new construction or renovation projects. For Alpha Nu to remain a premier Fraternity at The University of Texas, we must address our facility to attract the quality of men we pride ourselves on. Pursuing Excellence The University of Texas is as academically challenging as ever and the need for an enhanced, quiet, well-lit, and comfortable study space within our facility is necessary for our members to achieve. We have all seen the impact of technology over the years, as devices perhaps not present during your college years are now necessities, including high-speed internet access and more. Our plan will ensure that Alpha Nu excels academically and remains scholastic leaders on campus and within the Greek system. Keeping Our Brothers Safe Across the country, the largest issue regarding fraternity and sorority housing is the safety of the residents. The safety of our members is of utmost importance to the House Corporation; we must offer a structurally sound and safe home for our undergraduate brothers. Additionally, according to the American Fire Sprinkler Association, there are 1,800 fires a year in residence halls, dormitories, and fraternity housing. Fortunately, living in collegiate housing with fire sprinklers and smoke detectors enhances an individual's chance of surviving a fire by 97%, and our new facility would meet these standards. Much like our personal homes, our Chapter House must be a safe haven that instills confidence in our members and their parents.
