DELTA TAU DELTA W e are now a few months down the road since the membership review, and the at- titude of the chapter has begun to take on a new form. Led by the executive team, the current ac- tive member body has become more involved with philanthropic endeavors, activities on cam- pus, and our beloved fraternity. At the Alumni Supervisory Committee (ASC) retreat held earlier this semester, the ASC chal- lenged the executive team to accomplish a few goals before the summer break. One goal was to create a community of responsibility within the membership. While this will be a long-term, culture-altering effort, we have already seen changes. All in-house members and freshmen have signed up for at least one Delt committee, and are active participants in monthly meetings. These committees include academic, social, in- tramurals, and more. Having members involved with committee activities will cultivate the feel- ing of ownership that we desperately need. Another goal was to engage the membership in philanthropic activities. On March 4, OU's an- nual Soonerthon raised funds for the Oklahoma Children's Hospital Foundation. Delta Alpha had 54 brothers participate, raising $3,605, the second-highest amount amongst fraternities. Our very own Ian Astorga '17 served on the Soonerthon executive committee promoting the event to our Delt brothers and across campus. On April 1, OU hosted The Big Event, a day- long community service initiative. In an impres- sive showing, we had more than 70 members register. Early that Saturday morning members loaded up in trucks, drove to the state capital in Oklahoma City, and served from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. doing various landscaping and maintenance duties around the capital grounds. The men were awarded over 400 hours of community service from the university. While there are still plenty of ways to improve, the active membership has made leaps and bounds in these short months. The ASC is very excited about the progress made this quickly, and is looking forward to continuing our involve- ment with the executive team and membership.
