JULY 6 Town of Quartzsite invites every- one to attend the next meeting of Neighborhood Watch at 6:00 PM, on THURSDAY, JULY 6, 2017, at the Quartzsite Community Center. Chief William Ponce said he looks forward to working with the resi- dents to create a safer community. Launched in 1972, Neighbor- hood Watch counts on citizens to organize themselves and work with law enforcement to keep a trained eye and ear on their communities, while demonstrating their pres- ence at all times of day and night. Sponsored by the National Sher- iffs' Association (NSA), the Nation- al Crime Prevention Council says, "Neighborhood watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the coun- try, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer." For more information contact the Quartzsite Police Department at 928-927-4644. "Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." ~ Helen Keller Is there someone in your life whose actions just drive you nuts? Sometimes it's the little things that can irritate us the most. These irritations, or pet peeves, may seem minor at fi rst but can lead to more signifi cant stress in our lives. But, what the heck do we do about it? When someone "pushes our but- tons" it's good for us to fi rst recog- nize the irritation. Only when some- thing is acknowledged can it then be dealt with and resolved. Maybe we could ask ourselves why is this an ir- ritation in the fi rst place? Is this pet peeve serving us in any manner? Are we addicted to the adrenaline rush? Or do the actions need addressing with the person irritating you? In our society today, folks seem to be getting irritated more often. Road rage and bullying have escalated in recent months. If those pet peeves get in the way of you productivity in the workplace, it would be good to take action and meet it head on. We have choices about how to deal with those annoying little things. We can address the annoyance directly with the person or people causing it. Sometimes it's our unstated ex- pectations of how people should act that causes the irritations. I try and confront them directly in a kind man- ner about why I have a problem with the activity or behavior that is taking place. Many times people are unaware of the behavior. Other times folks just love to push people's "buttons." It's good to be reminded that we really do have a choice how we respond. One way is to eliminate the irritation from our life, such as not responding to attacks on social media. If you know me, you know I suggest breathing before respond- ing. Sometimes taking a long, deep breath will give you a moment to gather your thoughts before taking action. Remember, everything we do is our choice. We can choose to let folks get under our skin, take action, or choose to let it go. We are the examples for our children, so let's choose healthy actions. To the reader, You may never have noticed that I try to write these ramblings in exactly 50 words. It's not such a big deal, but some times when it's not, It could be some what of a struggle. How ever I change a word here, or there. So it comes out like this. Oops!
