QPD BULLETIN REPORT Provided by Quartzsite Police Department MAY 8 TO JUNE 5, 2017 5/10 Gary Leiser was found in posses- sion of four toads he had collected from Tyson Wash. Leiser was cited and re- leased for possession of wildlife without a permit/license. 5/10 Tony Spears was arrested for two outstanding warrants out of Quartzsite. 5/10 QPD assisted Qtz. Community Development Dept.-Code Enforcement with serving an Administrative Search Warrant to inspect property owned by James Wesley Field. 5/10 QPD responded to a theft from ven- dor/campsite near Dome Rock Road. 5/11 Andrea Crum was charged with Trespassing on Private Property at two locations, while offi cer was investigating the fi rst trespass. 5/13 During a traffi c stop conducted by QPD on Hwy. 95 it was discovered that the vehicle was stolen from Parker, AZ. The driver, Alan Tellez, admitted to stealing the vehicle a few hours prior to the traffi c stop. Tellez was arrested and booked into the La Paz County Deten- tion Center for Vehicle Theft. 5/15 Dustin Foote was cited and released for leaving the scene of his un-manned vehicle colliding with a sign belong to the Town of Quartzsite and having no valid insurance. 5/17 A man reported he thought he was hit by a vehicle while walking north on the roadway of State Route 95/ I-10 overpass. 5/19 Steve Poole was cited for failure to control speed to avoid a collision when his vehicle rear-ended a vehicle. 5/19 QPD located a reported stolen vehi- cle and run-away juvenile from Nevada. Sgt. Conley conducted a welfare check of the minor because she was to turn eigh- teen years of age in two days and had permission to use the vehicle from an- other registered owner of the vehicle. 5/21 Tom Russ was driving a vehicle with no license plate. A records check indicated his Arizona driving license was suspended/revoked. Ruse was cited and released for driving while suspended/re- voked. Towing company took possession of the vehicle for a mandatory 30-day impound per AZ 28-3511. 5/21 Jennifer Doud was cited and re- leased for Criminal Trespassing in the 2nd Degree by sitting on a folding chair near the front door. 5/21 A mattress in a bedroom of a mobile home on Riggles caught fi re. The cause of the fi re is unknown, but residents specu- lated it might be an extension cord with too many chargers plugged in. 5/23 QPD responded to a complaint of a "Carpet Sale" sign in the right of way. James Field was ultimately cited and re- leased for Town Zoning Ordinance Vio- lation: Prohibited Sign on Right of Way. 5/24 A man came to the QPD station to report his trailer was burglarized of $500 in misc. tools in the desert. Case remains open/active. 5/24 An unknown suspect(s) attempted to force entry into a residence on Moon Mt. Ave by forcing open a sliding glass door. It appears the suspect(s) were un- successful in making entry into the resi- dence due to some sort of rod lying in the tracks to the bottom of the door inside the residence. 5/26 Roger Extein was arrested and booked into the La Paz County Detention Center. During a traffi c stop a records check indicated Extein had an outstand- ing misdemeanor warrant from Salome for failure to appear due to his commer- cial log book not being current. 5/27 Radar showed Jose Gutierrez Aranda was driving on I-10 at 105 MPH. He was cited and released for criminal speed pursuant to ARS 28-701.02.A3 5/27 A man reported he was scammed of $2,400 when he fi lled out a fake Federal Grant Application online. He bought and paid for Apple I-Tunes Gift Cards. Call- ers were from an out-of-state number. 5/28 QPD was participating in Memorial Day Governors Offi ce of Highway Safety detail when a vehicle was observed dis- playing an expired registration. A traffi c stop was conducted. The driver Debra Ann Rios was found to have multiple AZ license suspensions. Rios was cited and released and the vehicle was impounded pursuant to ARS 28-3511. 5/28 QPD was participating in Memorial Day Governors Offi ce of Highway Safety detail when vehicle was failed to use a turn signal. A license plate check showed the vehicle registration to be suspended for mandatory insurance requirement. Driver was Donald Dean Taylor. Pas- senger Cheryl Young was found to be in possession of narcotic pain pills without a prescription. Young and Taylor were both cited and released for controlled substances. 5/28 QPD was participating in Memorial Day Governors Offi ce of Highway Safety detail when vehicle was observed speed- ing 83 MPH in marked 75 MPH zone on I-10. The driver Calceil Green was found to have a suspended/revoked CA drivers license. Green was also found to be op- erating a motor vehicle impaired to the slightest degree of alcohol/drugs. Green was long-formed on scene pending blood alcohol/drug result and vehicle was im- pounded pursuant to ARS 28-3511. 5/29 QPD responded to a report of an attempted pipe bomb in the desert near Quartzsite Blvd. The pipe bomb was not successfully exploded and will be for- warded to the AZ DPS Crime Lab for DNA/Fingerprint analysis. Case remains Open/Active pending identifi cation and location of suspect(s). 5/27-5/28 Steven Guy allegedly entered a residence and stole a green mountain bike. 5/29 QPD Canine Unit conducted a traf- fi c stop for failing to use a turn signal and no visible license plate. After a posi- tive canine alert for presence of illicit drugs, a passenger in the vehicle Thom Russ was found in possession of approx. 1.5 grams of methamphetamine. Russ was arrested and booked into the La Paz County Detention Center for Possession of Dangerous Drugs. 5/30 A woman reported the rear bumper of a her motor home was stolen. She said a person had been following her since 5/20 and she suspected they stole it. The estimated cost of the rear bumper is ap- prox. $230. Case if open/active pending further leads. 5/30 QPD offi cers destroyed eight Arizo- na license plates that were being stored at the station, which had been seized for various reasons. 5/30 Charles Wilson was cited and re- leased for attempted possession of Mari- juana pursuant to ARS 13-1001/3405. A and attempted possession of drug paraphernalia pursuant to ARS 13- 1001/3415.A 5/30 Donna Sockol was arrested and booked into the La Paz County Deten- tion Center for Aggravated DUI, a felony crime and the vehicle was impounded pursuant to ARS 28-3511. She confi rmed she had two prior DUI convictions with- in the last 84 months. 5/31 At approx. 5am an unknown suspect(s) lit the roof of stone cabin on Cholla Dr. on fi re causing it to com- pletely collapse. Quartzsite Fire Dept. extinguished the fi re and this case is open active pending any further suspect information. Read Desert MESSENGER E-edition online @ www.MyQuartzsite.com 5/31 QPD responded to an accident in- volving a bicycle versus vehicle accident on E. Quail Trail. The minor bicyclist was uninjured and found to have driven into traffi c after not stopping for the posted stop sign. The rear tire was struck by a passing motorist with the right-of-way. 5/31 At approx. 10:21 am, QPD respond- ed to a residential fi re on Camel Ln. The cause of the fi re is unknown and is 'sus- picious.' This case remains open/active. 5/31 At approx. 2:41pm QPD responded to Camel Ln. because Dennis Hegeman called Central Dispatch and said he was going to "Shoot" and "Kill" his future son-in-law because he suspected him of burning his shed earlier in the day. Hegeman was previously warned ear- lier in the day not to say comments like that. Hegeman was arrested and booked into the La Paz Co. Detention Center for Threats and Intimidation of Physical In- jury. 5/31 Derrick Frintz was cited and re- leased for criminal speed pursuant to ARS 28-701.02.A.3 after driving 93 MPH in a posted 75 MPH zone with a child in the backseat. 6/2 QPD responded to a report that an unknown suspect(s) unlawfully entered a home on Camel Ln. and removed nu- merous items. 6/3 QPD was running radar on I-10 when a vehicle with a GA license plate passed the offi cer at 96 MPH. A traffi c stop was conducted. There were four male occupants inside the vehicle. Jacob Baumgardner, Austin Ruble, Thomas Rohr and Donovan Proffi tt. The offi cer smelled an odor of marijuana an asked driver is there were drugs inside the ve- hicle, which he said yes. During a search of the vehicle, the offi cer located several grams of marijuana/narcotics and drug paraphernalia in luggage bags. All 4 oc- cupants were placed under arrest and the vehicle was impounded. All 4 were booked into La Paz Co. Detention Center for Possession of a Narcotic Drug, Pos- session of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 6/4 QPD were dispatched to a suspicious person call to service which resulted in an attempt-to-locate Elijah S. Harris who was ultimately located in reference to a past possession of stolen vehicle. 6/4 An unknown suspect entered a fenced residential yard and removed property from outside a trailer on Ty- son St. The incident was witnessed by a neighbor. The property is valued at ap- prox. $400.
