When you think about it, Food Network's "Incredible Edible America with the Dunhams" was an idea waiting to happen. Jeff Dunham is a stand-up comic and ventriloquist whose job requires him to frequently be on tour, thus exposing him to all manner of eateries across the country. His wife, Audrey, is a food blogger with an extensive knowledge of all things culinary. So their Monday food/travel series is just a natural extension of what they already do. "We would always make it a goal when we went to some city," Jeff Dunham explains, "we would try to find the perfect restaurant or whatever restaurant that the locals loved with the best food or the craziest food – we would always try and do that. And it just hit us ... Why couldn't we just turn this into a television show?" In the six-episode series, the couple check out local hotspots in Atlanta, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Austin, Texas, sampling the most outrageous, over-the- top creations. They range from the yard-long sandwich with all manner of meats, cheeses and other ingredients wrapped in a baguette in this week's episode in L.A., to the $777 burger served with a bottle of Dom Perignon in Sin City. "The bottle actually lights up," Audrey Dunham says with a laugh. "There's a button on it to light the whole bottle up. It was pretty impressive." And while these dishes all qualify as being outlandish, there was also one other standard they had to meet. "It had to be good," Jeff Dunham says. "We couldn't just be crazy for crazy. It had to be that the locals loved it and the restaurant was proud of it. We didn't want to just get sandwiches that were piled a mile high. Anybody can do that." cutline What book are you currently reading? (Audrey) "How about Food Network Magazine? (Laughs) Does that count?" What did you have for dinner last night? (Audrey) "Well we made some ... scallops and a nice, big, beautiful salad with lots of colorful vegetables and fruit added and some nuts. And some cauliflower rice." What is your next project? (Audrey) "I always have a lot of projects going on. I'm always working on my food blog and so just today I posted a recipe for savory falafel waffles with tahini sauce. And so every week I have a new project going where I'm trying out a new recipe." When was your last vacation, where and why? (Audrey) "Jeff and I aren't very good about taking vacations. We laugh about it all the time. I think part of it is because he travels so much for a living, so when he's home he's kind of on vacation. But we do have a vacation planned hopefully for early summer to take a few days to go to the San Ynez Valley wine country. That's where we actually got married, so anytime we're able to escape for a couple of days, we take advantage. We leave the boys with Grandma and Grandpa. We have 19-month-old twin boys, so Grandma and Grandpa love that time with them, so we'll probably take off and go to wine country. I can't even remember the last time we took a vacation. Maybe two years ago or so (laughs) to Newport Beach."
