3 Phi Sigma Kappa Brotherhood above Self Proud of His Membership, Ben Overmyer '11 Gives Back to Delta Triton B en Overmyer '11 loves Phi Sigma Kappa and his Delta Triton brothers. The fraternity's principles resonated with him as an undergraduate and have had a tremendous influence in his life. "I learned not only what the letters were, but what they represent." Introduced to Phi Sigma Kappa by a high school friend, Ben enjoyed the brotherhood and developed bonds with many people he otherwise may never have met. "The networking and lifetime bonds have advanced my career and my personal life by teaching me more about human diversity." Ben stays in touch with many brothers, taking vacations and sharing life experiences, including annual hunting trips with Shea Wimer '13, July 4th celebrations with Bojidar Gabrovski '11 and Dan Clark '16, and skydiving with James Bailey '08. Ben credits Delta Triton for improving his college experience. He gained leadership skills and became more confident "in a multitude of situations, both in college and after I came home to my family farm." Ben graduated with a bachelor's degree in agricultural systems management (but missed his capstone project celebration to attend an auction and buy his first farm) and returned to Rochester, Indiana, to manage Overmyer Farms with his father, with plans to eventually succeed him as owner and operator. Buying land, making large, capital purchases, and managing the logistics of farming in the modern era have put Ben in the position of deciding where Overmyer Farms is headed into the future. The future of Phi Sigma Kappa is also very important to Ben. His sense of pride in the fraternity prompted him to make a donation to the Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future campaign. He believes the campaign and improved living environment will stimulate growth and the quality of Delta Triton men. "Even though I love the old house, I am aware that the rising standards of students mean we must have a new house to survive" on the Purdue campus. Filling the new house with the highest quality of men will strengthen the fraternity's name and ensure generations of Delta Triton members. As a younger alumnus, Ben understands that many brothers are struggling with student loan debt and beginning their careers. "But in the grand scheme of things, Phi Sigma Kappa has given all of us more than we could ever give back. A donation of any size helps improve the chapter and maintain a future for Delta Triton." He hopes that all brothers feel the same. "One of the things I'll never forget, and hope all remember, is Brotherhood above Self." Ben can be reached at purdue175@gmail.com. Delta triton MeMbers PleDge to Maintain bonDs While living aPart D uring this exciting transition year, we have brothers living together in apartments near Chauncey and in the dorms. We will hold more brotherhood events to ensure our bond stays strong. We will also rent a secure room in the Stewart Center to conduct formal chapter meetings, and we are looking for storage options for the things in the house that we plan to hold on to. Delta Triton initiated 14 new members this spring, which brings us to 45 active members. For recruitment, we plan to use campus resources as much as possible, such as the CoRec facility, for hosting events so we are close to the students. I am also reaching out to other chapters without houses to see how they handle events. Our philanthropy and service numbers should be among the top per member in the IFC once again. We hosted a new philanthropic event, Pie Sig, and raised money for the Special Olympics by allowing people to throw shaving cream pies into brothers' faces. We held another car smash on April 20, where we were paired with the Red Cross Club. We also raised more than $2,700 for Polar Plunge and participated in other chapters' philanthropic events, taking first place in the Phi Delt Phys Ed Challenge. Our GPA remains above 3.0, which puts us among the top IFC performers academically. We could not maintain our success at Purdue without the support of our loyal alumni. We strive to uphold the cardinal principles of Phi Sigma Kappa and make you proud of our brotherhood. Fraternally, Daniel Lowes '21 dlowes@purdue.edu Delta Triton brothers braved the cold water for a Polar Plunge event that raised more than $2,700. Delta Triton took first place in the Phi Delt Phys Ed Challenge.
