How- ever there are unfortunately quite a few bad apples out there. On that note, let me say thank you to three special offi- cers — two Tehama County Sheriff's and one California Highway Patrol — who filed false reports about me that lead an overzealous District Attor- ney's office to file charges. Now I'll either shell out thousands to prove my inno- cence or save my house and plead no contest, which is guilty. Thank you officers. Robert Jones, Cottonwood match and all the kids played their hearts out. One player for the Rangers scored the first two goals. Instead of leaving this boy up front to score more goals, which he could have easily done, Ben- nett chose to move him back to defense. Late in the second half, our team scored two goals to tie the game, 2-2. The game ended in a tie and everyone was happy. Afterward, Clayton walked up to me. I thanked him for moving his player back on defense instead of leaving him forward to run up the score. What he said to me was astounding: "Your kids are just as important as my kids." It's clear that both Bennett So now not only am I a Viet- nam disabled veteran, I'm a convict. Editor: I want to thank Clayton Ben- nett and Chante Turnbow for demonstrating the true meaning of sportsmanship. We are all coaches in the U- Good sport 10 Boys Red Bluff Youth Soc- cer League. Last Saturday, my team, the Tornados, played their team, the Rangers. It was a great and Turnbow embrace the idea of competitive balance, some- thing all coaches at the U-8 and U-10 levels should aspire to have. Pat Gleason, Red Bluff I am replying to the Don Pol- son opinion saying things about him not true or fair. Polson Editor: First, he lets the people know about the National Forest Ser- vice shutting down our forest by putting up gates and closing roads needed to fight fire and for recreation. Second, letting people know about Agenda 21 and what our government is taking our rights 2nd amendment and creating our national debt to $16 trillion and planning on adding more than that soon. Third, he is trying to tell the people we need to protect our constitution and stand up for our rights. I just want to say no one should criti- cize someone trying to make a difference in our community when all she does is find fault and does nothing positive her- self. Aurora and Afghanistan Editor: be more difficult to be misled into any illegal war, AKA occu- pation of any state. Now I ask you to switch gears back to Aurora. Your Turn June Cooper, Red Bluff While this episode is one of the most horrific ever to happen in America to date, we must know that this scene is being enacted daily in Afghanistan. And formerly in Iraq, that is until the oil fields were handed back to Dick Cheney's former employer. And that will explain why all that death, destruction and debt were to occur. murder. Neither are acceptable. We as a nation must insist that the president use his power as commander in chief to get our troops out of afghanistan now. We have roads to repair, bridges to be brought back to a safe level and most important of all, more must improve our edu- cational efforts, as we are over 17 percent from the top interna- tionally. Both acts of unmitigated Along with all of the rest of the aforementioned, we must, yes I said must, set as top prior- ity education. For an educated public will Before going further, I wish to inject that hallowed docu- ment, the Second Amendment. Before you start screaming "don't step on my right to keep and bear arms," let us be aware of what the Second Amendment says — a well regulated militia being necessary to maintain a free society, therefore the right to keep and bear arms shall not be abridged. Let us continue with Aurora and say that we need stronger weapons control, to prevent fur- ther means of destruction. No, Mr. Strong no one wants your damn gun, I do not want my grandson to die in a movie theater nor going to school. Let us stop the murder over seas and at home. Candidates' signature moment Commentary Michelle Dresbold knows more about the presidential can- didates than most people. A handwriting expert — she was among 19 Americans to be accepted into the U.S. Secret Service Advanced Document Training Program — Dresbold has helped resolve some of America's highest-profile crimes, as told in her book "Sex, Lies, and Handwriting" (michelledresbold.com). I asked her to analyze the sig- natures of President Obama and Republican presidential nomi- nee Mitt Romney. "Obama's overly large signa- ture shows he likes attention and is a bit of an egotist, which is common among public figures," she said. "He does something unusual with the 'O' and 'b' in his last name." handwriting is simple and direct, his signature is very flowery and hard to read. His signature reveals him to be a showman in public, but also shows him to be someone who conceals what he is really thinking." Obama may be good at con- cealing what he is really think- ing, but not nearly as good at that as his pals in the media are. "Obama's regular handwrit- ing also shows him to be very strategic and pragmatic — a tough cookie. He rules his life by what he thinks and believes, not by emotion." Such as not only becoming president of the United States but fixing the mess we are in? makes a cross between his 't' and his 'R.' This means religion and the meaning of life are very important to him. His squashed 'e' sug- gests he doesn't always listen to others." "In his signature, he Whether Obama does it con- sciously or subconsciously, by intersecting his "O" and his "b," he forms the Greek letter "phi." "Since ancient times, this symbol has represented the golden ratio, the ideal propor- tion. Obama is determined that things be balanced." With the exception of the fed- eral budget. Dresbold shared another interesting observation: The style Obama uses for his signa- ture is entirely different from his other handwriting. "Whereas the rest of his Which is interesting. Many people think Romney is more pragmatic and aloof than Obama, but Romney's handwrit- ing shows that he is driven by his feelings and desires. "Romney's signature leans heavily to the right. This reveals a person who is more emotional and works more out of passion and from the heart." Though Romney is also very analytical. And he's goal-oriented. "His 't's' are flying off the stems. This shows that he is always looking for that high, unattainable goal." angular. This suggests he is very analytical and likes to investi- gate and analyze to know the answers. Angular people can be very tough, too." "His 'M' is very pointed and Romney is perceived to be a good listener, but his handwriting sug- gests he is not. Dres- bold told me Obama's handwriting suggests he is a good listener, but his policies, which remain left of center despite the 2010 elections, show that he is not. Like Obama's signature, That is interesting. Romney's shows he likes to con- ceal what he is thinking. "The way his 'e' and 'y' run together shows that he likes to skip over things and be ambigu- ous. He likes to give himself some wiggle room, so he doesn't make things as clear as they could be." runaway spending, fix the deficit and grow the economy in a man- ner that placates both the left and right in our highly divided country? Such as his plan to rein in I'm not running for president Tom Purcell handwriting analysis isn't the best way to judge a candidate. But it reveals one thing worth noting: Of the two candidates, Romney is more hopeful than Obama. and even I am wise enough to keep such thoughts to myself. Unlike Obama, whose handwriting shows that he excels at language and commu- nication, Romney's handwriting shows he is much better at math. Though that doesn't appear to be a skill used much in Wash- ington anymore. In any event, the handwriting of both fellows reveals them to be interesting, intel- ligent people. Maybe "Before Obama was presi- dent, his handwriting traveled sharply uphill," says Dresbold. "This means he was upbeat and optimistic. Now, however, his signature has flattened. His opti- mism is not so great as it once was." Tom Purcell, a humor columnist for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, is nationally syndicated exclusively by Cagle Cartoons newspaper syndicate.
