She found the members to be genuine and passionate about their chapter. "I loved meeting the women," Rachel said, "and learning more about what it meant to be an Alpha Chi." Once a member, Rachel became fully integrated into the Gamma Zeta community, serving as chapter president and vice president of education. These executive offices prepared her for the leadership roles she would eventually have later in life and taught her how to run organizations, lead meetings, and work well with other people. "It's amazing how Alpha Chi is able to provide opportunities for women to learn and develop in a safe environment," said Rachel. Her undergraduate years were enriching and many of Rachel's chapter sisters became her closest friends and remain staples in her life today. "Their friendship has sustained me through the toughest personal times," she shared. Rachel's favorite time of year was always Homecoming, because of how much fun the sisters had coming together and working toward a common goal. "I always enjoyed Pant the Chant and making the float," The SUPPORT of SISTERS How Gamma Zeta Helped Rachel Pettit-Scott '01 to Be Resilient ometimes life becomes routine and sometimes it throws you a curveball. My curveball came in the form of a field assignment in sunny Southern California, where I will be moving this summer. 12 YEARS OF HOUSE CORPORATION SERVICE While I am excited for this career opportunity, I am saddened that it has required me to step down from my role as house corporation president. It has been my pleasure serving on the board for the past 12 years and I will miss attending meetings and engaging with alumnae, but will continue to support Gamma Zeta from afar. WELCOME, NEW PRESIDENT I am pleased to introduce our new president, Bridget Beran '12, who resides in Lenexa, Kansas. She joins Vice President Sara Urbauer Smith '97, Treasurer Carrie Call Prater '93, and Secretary Rebecca Nedrow '00 in leading our board. I know these women will continue doing a wonderful job of supporting our active chapter. SUMMER PROJECTS IN THE WORKS The house corporation finalized its list of summer projects at the annual meeting in April. We have enlisted the help of designers at Nell Hills to provide inspiration for the formal living room. You will definitely want to come by in the fall to see all of the latest improvements! JOIN THE BOARD If any alumnae are interested in attending a house corporation meeting or joining the board, please contact Bridget at blberan_7@hotmail.com. Meetings are held approximately six times per year at the Gamma Zeta Chapter house. Thank you for your ongoing support as the Gamma Zeta House Corporation transitions. We look forward to embarking on the journey with you! Loyally, Kim Bartak '00 House Corporation President kim.bartak@gmail.com Continued on page 2 ACW
