DELTA PSI NEWS 4 Amber Caldwell '15, Hanna Henley '15, Caitlyn Cannova '15, and Mari Archambault '15 exploring our new lodge. Delta Psi takes on St. Louis for the Kappa leadership conference! Delta Psi Thrives During Spring Semester Chapter Members Engaged in Academic and Philanthropic Success D elta Psi has had a busy whirlwind semester. Plus, with the highly anticipated completion of the new lodge, there has been a constant buzz in the air! We could not do all the things we do without the support of our advisors and alumnae. We are so thankful to have such a spectacular opportunity to be Kappas here at Texas Tech with the Delta Psi Chapter. ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS Many of our members worked extremely hard last semester and earned a 4.0. To congratulate them, we awarded certificates at our Mother's Day brunch, and gave them a pearl to put on their badges. We are so proud of them and all their hard work. As a chapter, we were third in grades with a cumulative GPA of 3.334, which is a .115 increase for the previous semester. We are becoming familiar with using the GIN system to track study hall hours and make sure everyone is keeping a balance between school and social activities. Members are also encouraged to get good grades through different incentive programs designed by our vice president of academic excellence, Kara Lamb '14. PHILANTHROPIC PURSUITS This spring, we had our Kappa Klassic event, a golf tournament that was scheduled alongside Dad's Weekend. Many of the visiting dads played in the event, and were joined by other Tech students and people from the Lubbock community. Proceeds benefit the local Children's Miracle Network here in Lubbock. Last year, we raised over $20,000 and are expecting to do the same this year once totals are finalized. It was a great time and so many people joined us to support our philanthropy! We also make time to read to students at an after-school program at a local elementary every week, and occasionally donate books to this school to promote literacy. PREPARING FOR RECRUITMENT We are so excited that we will be able to move into our new lodge by recruitment 2017. Our membership chairman is working tirelessly to figure out a new layout and concept for recruitment in our new space. With the recruitment team chosen and meetings happening weekly before the summer starts, it really won't be long before we are ready to find our new sisters. Amber Caldwell '15, our membership chairman, said, "I am excited to finally see all of our ideas come to life and all of these months of anticipation to be over when we finally get to bring those potential new members into our new space." KAPPA LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE From April 21-23, the chapter president, standards chairman, membership chairman, new member chairman, and risk chairman were invited to attend the Kappa leadership conference in St. Louis. There were about 35 other chapters represented there. The women learned a lot about what it means to be a Kappa, and the important legacy we carry. Being founded during a time when women we're fighting for equality, Kappa was created as a safe haven for its founders. With only eight colleges in the U.S. in 1870 that accepted women, the founders of Kappa were bold, educated, collegiate young women. The five officers that attended left with a refreshed understanding and feeling for how important Kappa is to women's history. ALUMNAE AND PARENT EVENTS In the fall, we had some alumnae open their homes to us for dinners. It was such a fun and sweet way to get to know our local alumnae. We are so grateful for all of their involvement and support with the chapter. We are also grateful for the love and support of our parents. Mom's Weekend is such a fun way to show our mothers what we are all about. The weekend is full of activities, such as brunch, hearing the pickers sing, and learning about the various student organizations we are involved with. At Dad's Weekend, in addition to the Kappa Klassic, we attended a Friday night baseball game against TCU. We are so thankful for the support of our parents and alumnae, and we can't wait to have you come see us in the new lodge soon!
