Just as each school year brings new brothers and new alumni, we continue to recruit and replenish our alumni volunteers. Mike Taney '91 is stepping in to help with the Balanced Man Scholarship (BMS), Mark Kroeger '11 is serving as president mentor, and Jason Bowers '00 is serving as communications mentor. Thanks to all the mentors and AVC volunteers that partner with the undergraduates to keep Ohio Theta strong. LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR UNDERGRADUATE BROTHERS We are happy to report on the success of the chapter as well, especially as individual brothers are selected for prominent SigEp leadership opportunities. Jared Bresnan '19 was selected to attend the Ruck Leadership Institute and Tim Waymire '18 is serving as a Ruck Leadership Institute intern. Additionally, graduating senior Erik Angus '17 was selected to serve the national fraternity, joining an elite group of Ohio Theta Alumni that served on staff starting with Order of the Golden Heart (OGH) recipient, Don Kindle '55. The Order of the Golden Heart is the Fraternity's highest honor, awarded to alumni who, with great personal sacrifice, have given exceptional service to Sigma Phi Epsilon. HONORING OHIO THETA'S LEGACY OF ALUMNI SUPPORT Gary Lessis '83 and I recently met up with Don and his terrific wife, Carolyn. Don shared some memories of his time with the chapter, on various national committees, and of course stories of their sons. Carolyn and Don were nice enough to share Don's OGH certificate with us, and it will be on display at the chapter house along with some priceless photos and memorabilia. During the course of the afternoon visit, we even called on OGH Dr. Eric Weise '54 to help with some of the specifics of events at Ohio Theta and the national fraternity, and even how they managed to get some IXE members involved with SigEp nationally, such as OGH Earl Fertig '24. During the visit, Carolyn and Don shared with us their plans to move closer to their grandchildren in the coming months. It was great visit with them and we will miss seeing them around 321 Joselin and at the Conclave stand-down. SIGEP CONCLAVE This summer, Conclave will be held in Orlando and the AVC will be sponsoring undergraduates to attend. If you have a legacy in the chapter that you would like to attend or perhaps want to help sponsor an undergraduate leader to attend, please contact me or Gary Lessis. VOLUNTEER TODAY The Ohio Theta Chapter and the AVC continue to work together to provide meaningful programming for the undergraduates, like the Alumni Speaker Series. We continue to look for additional speakers and topics for that series. If you are interested in volunteering your time as a mentor or as a member of the AVC, please contact me at reymedina@hotmail.com. ALUMNI EVENTS We hope to see you at the alumni vs. undergraduate softball game this summer or perhaps at Homecoming this fall, which will be held on Saturday, October 21, when the Bearcats take on Southern Methodist University.
