It was a great weekend of events with lots of excitement and enthusiasm surrounding the building of a new Chapter House. Rick Bynum, GU 823, spoke at the ceremony on Saturday, April 22, and his words summed up our thoughts on this new chapter for Gamma Upsilon. "What a great time for so many reasons—the accomplishments, the time spent with friends once again, and the optimism of what lies ahead has made this so special," Rick said. "It's interesting to look back at our three pivotal celebrations and how our relationships with the Chapter have evolved. Through no fault of our own, I feel like the colonization ceremony had sort of an 'us' versus 'them' atmosphere, while the chartering celebration became an 'us' AND 'them' celebration. This weekend has solidified in my mind beyond any shadow of a doubt that the Chapter and its alumni are now a 'we' and it's a great feeling to have." A highlight of the weekend was honoring Jerry Lassiter, GU 567, by presenting him with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chapter. It is well deserved with the almost 50 years of continuous service, leadership, and inspiration that he has provided to both alumni and active members. Jerry, we truly appreciate your passion for achieving excellence. Thank you for all of the hours, days, and years you have given back. Successful Groundbreaking Event The last and most anticipated event of the semester took place at the end of April. The groundbreaking celebration and the groundbreaking ceremony have been talked about all year, and they are viewed as historic moments for our Chapter that we were extremely grateful to experience. Alumni Support Essential to Chapter's Success On behalf of the Chapter, I would like to thank our alumni for their continued support and effort to make Gamma Upsilon the best Chapter it can be. I would like to convey the joy and honor I have received from leading this Chapter as president and thank all the alumni and brothers who have supported me this past year. Feel free to drop by the Chapter anytime if you find yourself in town! Glenn Davis, GU 574, and his wife, Joan, drove from Austin, Texas. They funded their trip by stopping at several casinos on the way. Let's hope the return trip was as successful. I also thank Reg Tilley, GU 548, for traveling from Washington State. It was great to have these alumni at our event. If you were unable to join us for the groundbreaking ceremony, visit the Chapter's Facebook page to listen to the speakers from the event.
