Word in the title of Howie Mandel's game show Solution on page 2 CoverStory By George Dickie © Zap2it Dancers, probably more than most any other per- formers, are a dedicated lot. They must perform tech- nically complex routines that demand the utmost physical strength, agility, conditioning and disci- pline, often risking injury or worse, for not a lot in the way of individual rec- ognition or money. And if they do get seriously hurt, it could mean the end of a career. Truly, these are people who are in it for the love of the game. It is for these folks — and anyone who appre- ciates the art in its many forms — that "World of Dance" was created. Pre- miering Tuesday, May 30, on NBC, with the first of 10 episodes, the hourlong se- ries gives individuals, duos and crews of all ages and backgrounds the chance to compete and showcase their talents in all genres of dance — from ballroom, cabaret and ballet to sal- sa, modern and hip-hop — with a $1 million grand prize and the title "Best in the World" at stake. Judging the competitors are accomplished dancers Derek Hough ("Dancing With the Stars"), Ne-Yo ("So You Think You Can Dance") and recording art- ist Jennifer Lopez, who is also an executive producer on the series. Actress/ dancer Jenna Dewan Tatum ("Step Up") is the host and mentor. "I started as a dancer," explains Lopez, "so creat- ing an opportunity where they get to be the stars, where they get to be up front, where they get to make a name for them- selves and where they get to make some real money because that's unheard of in the dance community, it just had all the right inten- tion behind it, everything I would have wanted to do with a dance show. "I really feel like the couple of dance shows that have been around in the past 10 years or so really prepped America and educated America on what dance is all about, all the different styles of dance and all that kind of stuff. You know ballroom, you know contemporary, you know hip-hop. You know all this stuff and now you've seen it up close in your living rooms and now is the perfect time to like, 'OK, let's do the dance competitions where you find the best dancer in the world.' " Jenna Dewan Tatum is host and mentor on "World of Dance," premiering Tuesday on NBC. 'World of Dance' shows off the state of the art WE CARRY LAWN MOWERS 711 E.
